... but I'm sure Ihnen should be pronounced 'eenen'.

Dragon

I use to know a few phrases in German but the only ones I can remember (pardon my atrocious german spelling) are:

Ich bein ein Dragon (Which I beleive is I am a Dragon) &
Ich bein austerlander, spreichen nicht Duetch (or I'm a foreigner, don't speak German)

Correct, Login, about how to pronounce Ihnen. And you did well, Dragon. I, too, like languages, Polenta, but speak none fluently besides English. I know enough German to have gotten by okay in Germany, but as each year goes by, it seems I forget a bit more. Thankfully, my German friends tend to overlook my atrocious German grammar.

Ich sprecka kine Duetch. I also love languages, but spell none of them fluently, and speak only English fluently. I have been introduced to Spanish, German, French, Latin, and Italian.

which is the hardest of all languages? Why could that be?

maddyjean, you mentioned on the Think Write thread that you had trouble writing a story in the half hour you're allowed on the computer. Why don't you write down the word list and the number of words allowed on a piece of paper and then write your story by hand. Then you don't have to worry about getting kicked off the computer and you can really get into your story. You can keep a rough count of how many words your story is as you go then when you get on the computer if you can check the number with your word program and edit your story to fit just right. I do that quite often when I write.

She's really in to writing, she thinks she has to write off the top of her head, I'll tell her, it's my turn on the computer right now.....

Did you notice how nobody gets annoyed anymore by your 'game'?

Polenta, I've always heard that English is the hardest language to learn. Which makes me thankful that I already know it. I would say though, that out of all the languages I have tried to learn that Latin is the hardest, because no one around here speaks Latin.

Maddy, I have always found that words flow off the tip of a pencil better than from a keyboard. Give it a try.

English has easy grammar and half of its vocabulary coming from Latin is kind of easy for Spanish speakers. What is difficult is A REAL GOOD PRONUNCIATION especially the obscure vowels of unstressed syllables.
From the languages I've learned, German grammar is very, very , very hard. It's the different cases that makes it SO DIFFICULT!!!

not to mention the verbs which are thrown away at the end of the sentence sometimes. i agree: German is difficult.

You're right Shanley.
Ich habe das Buch gelesen. You never come to know what the verb is. Imagine .... how scary this is for simultaneous interpreters. My God!!!!!

English is hard for people because of this "Two, to, too" "read, read" Stuff like that makes it sooo confusing...
