I think this particular forum refers to the overall rating on the whole site, but I agree, I would love to see a search window in the Showcase. Sometimes I just want to see the most recent and I don't want to have to scoll through every page. |

Many have pointed out the issues with the rating system on this excellent site. Any time an anonymous vote is allowed, which encourages many to participate, there will be those morons who vote low for spite, to bully, or who knows what infantile reason. One way to avoid that would be to eliminate the 1-5 ratings, and just have one rating--such as "great". And the drawings that get the most "greats" in any given month would get into the Top 5 or Top 10 or whatever. I have really enjoyed the great artists on this site, and would hate to see any leave because of the pettiness of a moronic few. I commend Rachel and all who make this site so outstanding! |

DMarcella and Matthew--you are both very talented and do not deserve 1 votes. All the more reason to go with a system that only allows only one nod to a drawing, and that nod would be a positive one. If someone doesn't like your picture in that case, they just wouldn't vote. If they did vote, it would be in favor of the drawing. Shame on the anonymous wimps out there who apparently have no talent at all except being mean bullies. |

I think the only downfall to the method you suggest sheftali52 is what happens if 10 pictures in the same category get the same number of votes. Otherwise it's an excellent idea. I would probably vote more often if there was no 1-5 voting. |

Dragon and Matthew, what you've both pointed out is that there is no perfect rating system, but I agree that a simple one is best. I like the idea of Rachel casting the deciding vote if necessary. |

How sad that when people spend so much time and effort and want people to enjoy their work they are disappointed by a poorly designed system and mean spirited people. I don't see why a simple system of total vote points wouldn't be effective and I know this has been mentioned before. I try to be careful to give only '5' vote but if someone voted a '4' and total points were counted it would only bump down 1 point. Other than that I love to do the art for it's own sake. I would like to share and let others enjoy my efforts as well as get constructive criticism from more artistic minds but that doesn't always happen with this system. Some of my toughest pictures that turned out fairly well weren't really shared. I'm sure that is true for everyone else. But really I do enjoy all of your wonderful efforts, its truely amazing what you people do with limited palettes, thanks for letting me watch |

As mentioned already with the current system people are not voting much for a given picture because they pass if they don't think it is worth a 5 but I also feel that the votes are low even if a picture is worth a 5. We all get better with each medium as we go along but instead of my votes going up they have gone down for the most part. If I get 5-7 votes on a picture then it probably was well liked but I am still left wondering especially few leave a message saying so. I have worked hard to get better but am not encouraged when my votes don't show this. I can see the value of a vote or no vote system but then you would be voting the same for a 3 type vote picture as you would a picture that was worth 50 votes. I am questioning the value of a vote system all together. I think positive comments are of more value but for some reason people are leaving less and less comments under our pictures. And sometimes the comments don't really say how they felt about the picture at all. |
