ThinkDraw

It's been way too long.

Suggestions for a new theme please and we will try and get it done soon...

Oh, oh - you are just toooo wonderful !

Could we possibly have 'sketching' or 'etching' or 'woodcuts' or something ? We currently have quite a lot of themes that are designed for quick & easy use, but I think a lot of TDers are actually 'drawers' and would like something that allows for delicate lines as well as carefully sculpted shadows.

Failing that.. can we have 'boxes', or something that allows you to use different shapes with different fills ?

Or maybe 'engineering' - which might interest a lot of people ?

Mmm.. just realised.. I think what I'm asking for is a theme called 'Art'

Each of the 3 left/right shape options could allow you to draw in a particular way - e.g. cubism, etc., while the bottom options would allow a broader array of basic drawing components.

Actually, I don't really care what our next present is, but I'm already looking forward to it

How about 'Steampunk'?
Gears, cogs, brass metal geegaws, typewriter keys, glass lenses, buckles, valves, engine parts, rusted bits of metal, skeleton keys, lots of brown and sepia colors

I've thought of a few that might be interesting. Office supplies like pink erasers, red staplers, blue USB drives, paperclips, rulers, scissors, and so forth.

I also like the idea of cars. Different colored fenders, interior pieces, various headlights and tail lights, and on and on.

I also agree with Marg. The etched or woodcut look would be really cool.

Baldur's steampunk idea sounds all sorts of awesome.

This is so exciting.... like an early Christmas present! I like ALL the ideas so far.

Yes, Randylynne, the steampunk sounds really cool. My only worry was having enough colors other than the browns. Because the first thing I'm going to make in the new theme's palette is a matching "Hallucinogenic Toreador" to complete the set. If I don't have a blueish or green then it is practically impossible to accomplish that one.

I guess I should leave that kind of concern to ThinkDraw. Whoever came up with this site and all of it's inherent awesomeness knows what they are doing. So I'll shut up now.

Has it really been long since they gave us the Space theme? Getting another new theme is very generous, and I Love you TD! All the suggestions sound intriguing. This is going to be SO cool!

Jaybuddy's first space pic was drawn on 9th May 2012 - but a new theme is always good, especially a special Christmas present

I like the steampunk idea too!

It does seem we were just introduced to the Space theme. In reviewing previous requests for suggestions, I remembered I made this suggestion about three years ago to the day, which incorporates some of Baldurs steampunk and bugoy's request for some color:

"I have suggested machinery parts in the past. Gears, screws, nuts, bolts, I-beams, tools with the handles introducing some other colors than metallic silver, gray, black blue. Handles of green, red, yellow, etc. Definitely pieces with white and black edges."

I also like marg's idea of an art palette. One final suggestion--since the Flowers palette is a low resolution how about a refresh of the Flowers palette with some new flowers?

Thanks TD for allowing us to challenge ourselves with each new palette.

More than a new palette, I would like to be able to rotate all the pieces. I have no idea how difficult it would be to engineer that...just a suggestion.

I like the idea of refreshing the Flowers palette mrozowski. Being able to rotate the pieces.... that could be very interesting. I know you added new shapes and colors to Gothic last time but maybe some new shapes or backgrounds could be added.

I'm not so excited about a mechanical parts palette - may be a feminine bias. If it should be, I would like a palette with bright and flamboyant colours.

In past I suggested a haberdashery theme. If you google this word and set "images", you could have idea of what an amazing range of possibilities this theme could have.

In any case, I think the new theme should have:

- at least one piece with white edges and another one with black edges
- I really would like very tiny pieces (may be point shapes, as in the so-useful stars of Space theme)
- some transparencies or "web" shapes (as in yellow bits of new Gothic) - this in the haberdashery theme could be easily made with some crochet
- this is a mad idea and I don't know if it is technically possible, but should we have a "wathering" piece, a trasparent layer that diluite the colour making it more light? Many time when I'm drawing I should have it...

I like the idea of a Flower refresh too, but I'm excited about an entirely new theme!

Hmm well..

..I was going to say that you would love mechanical parts, clo, based on your wonderful pictures to date - look how you've done the metal in these recent pics:

http://www.thinkdraw.com/picture.php?pictureId=195258

..but then I realised that you don't care what the new medium is called, you just care about the colours that the medium provides ?

Sorry - cut that off a bit short - and my apologies for rambling / thinking aloud..

I think this is about the 'hey - this is where the challenge comes in'.. and the fact that we may have goodies in one palette (e.g. transparencies in Beads), but we have to learn / experiment / fight to force the new palette to render what we see.

BTW.. I would totally support 'Haberdashers' as a theme - and also 'Merchant Venturers' - and maybe 'Goldsmiths'

Here's another idea:
How about a 'best of' set of drawing pieces?
Each palette so far has given us 11 sets of bits to choose from. Why not lift one set from each palette we already have such as the kiwi fruit pieces from 'Fruit', a set of ears from 'Faces', the stars from 'Space', a set of eyebrows from 'Avatars etc etc.
There are ten palettes to pick these sets from, the 11th set could be new surprises.
Likewise pull the backgrounds from different palettes.

ah marg... Marky was the master there. You don't know how much I struggled for drawing those simple objects. Portraits are far easier for me!

About the "best of the palettes" idea, it appeals! But whould be a challenge (not to easy) at that point?
Anyway, Such theme could be a great medium for composite pictures, making possible to match different palettes!!

I just had a new idea this morning as I was waking up. What about doing an apparel theme? There could be various types and colors of shoes, pants, skirts, scarfs, socks, belts, hats and so forth. There could be a background of a person to dress up for those who like to use the pieces the literal way. Then other backgrounds could be available for drawing other stuff too.

Anyway, I could see tons of possibilities with that one so I thought I'd share.
