You're probably wondering what this challenge is about...Well, lately, I have seen a great number of brilliant pics aiming to set new boundaries by exploring different art movements. Be it classicism, romaticism, fauvism, surrealism, impressionism, these works definetely have a great advantage: they follow a path already taken. There are concepts carefully thought of by many people who made a difference. So here's my idea: try developing something that would fit as accurately as possible in one specific art movement. My advice would be to do some research on the art movement first so that you can come up with a new work, but copies of famous paintigs (and drawings, advertisment, posters, etc.!) are welcome too. I'll be checking the forum as often as`I can and try bringing some useful infomation and/or examples. Have fun!

Wonderful, wonderful challenge, great idea Shanley!!!!
How long it goes on? I hope more than a week, bc there are so many artistic movements to explore...

Well...I assumed it would last a week...as usual...but if people will take interest in it and will agree to give it on extra-time, I surely wouldn't mind!

In order to win the challenge, yes. Firstly, because the fun in a challenge is to get participants thinking about it again and secondly (this i have to admit), it's always a pleasure to see TD's grand masters at work and to contemplate the result.
However, posting more examples is strongly encouraged. So are comments and suggestions...or even requests. I'm hoping to make this challenge a bit more interactive. (My wishful thinking is already flirting with the idea of exposing the principles of several art movements...or at least post some useful links).

This is an old pic, but I think it could be fit as "expressionism", a sort of George Grosz style?

Sorry? what for? Thank you for taking this 'journey' so far, Clorophilla!
Loved all the entries I've seen, but still hope to see some more.
Maybe it would be useful to comment a bit upon technical difficulties. For example, the copy of 'Shimmer' really got me thinking. Not being strict about the shapes and lines can be very confusing. Impressionism is based on 'decomposing light'. The subjects are common (opposing the renaiscentists who prefered religious themes and paintings clear and clean as a photo), inspired by everyday's life, and the lines are carefully used.
(Again, I'd like to point to Five's masterpiece posted above).

Again, an easy piece... about Spatialism (look here for more info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spatialism)

I love this challenge!
And I like your comment. Yes, Impressionis was the first movement I thought, but I find it really difficult, and I quickly resign...!
It's amazing, however, how much one can go deeper in the understandig of an art movement or on an artist, simply copying or mimicing that art!

I was contemplating a quick foray into modern art, so I created a piece that represents my journey through life. Would appreciate any feedback on this item as I have never created anything as true before or personal. What do you think?
