I've heard that we are celebrating 100 years of Mark Twain's death.
I remember having read "Tom Sawyer" and "Huck Finn" as a kid and a few of his short stories........ but I'm sure other TDers, especially Americans could add some of their own experience here.

Tom Sawyer was nice, but Huck was pure delight! Sorry to say I didn't read more of his works. Tried 'Life on the Mississippi' but lacked the patience at that time.

Haven't read much beyond what you mentioned, but Wikipedia brings several to mind that would be fun to look into. He had a fierce wit. Lots of his bits & pieces - like his comments on the German language - are floating around. Seems he had a Joan of Arc obsession! That biography was his fave or his own works. I recall (I think!) movie versions of The Prince & the Pauper and Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court. He had many life tragedies, but was well-travelled, and used those impressions as a basis for his writing. Born 30 NOV 1835. Thanks for bringing him up.
