I don't always leave a comment, but then I pretty much only vote on the ones I think are worth a 5 anymore. I used to vote on quite a few and would vote whatever I thought it was worth (3, 4, 5 - never lower).

Then I realized how much a 4 would knock you down on the page, I still think a 4 is a good vote for a lot of pictures, but I wouldn't dare vote that way anymore. It just causes too much controversy.

So now I don't vote on pic's I would like to because there are several I don't think are 5 worthy but do think are very good, but I wouldn't want to be accused of voting someone down to advance my pics.

I'm glad the Top 5 issues are being addressed, but I still would prefer a method that adds the totals. Then any vote you choose to give is advancing the picture you vote for.

Adding total votes ... I'm with you there 100%, Dragon.
I have given up on 1 to 5 voting for the time being. If I find a drawing interesting enough to look closer, I give it 5 irrespective of whether I think it is worthy of Top 5.
In effect, I am practicing what I preach (with one exception) and working on the vote / no vote principle. The one exception was 1 vote for the OVB.

The power of a 4 to get pix lost from sight stops me from using the whole system as fully as I would otherwise.

I am very opinionated. If I see a problem, I am very vocal. I too see better fixes for this issue & have made suggestions that would work.

What they are doing now is a great improvement. I am happy with it unless I see it still doesn't work.

As far as me not being victomized... I beg to differ... I know I have more 1 votes... I have 12 votes of 1 on a single pic & that is just the tip of the iceberg...

I don't want to give the impression I'm complaining about the new system. I'm pleased something has been done and want to see how it all works in the long run.

I do think matthew does actually get more 1 votes because he's probably the most visible artist on the site (I know there are a lot of exelent artists who also get targeted too, anyone who consistant has Top 5 worthy art is a target for OVB, I just think matthew is probably the one who gets the most)

Hey, Think Draw.. here I am in raptures about getting a pic into the Top 5 .. and it's STILL totally skewed.

What joy can I have, knowing the number of brilliant other pictures that have been submitted that are better than mine ? This has been going on for months - can't you PLEASE just add up ratings and publish the Top 5 on that basis ?

My sincerest apologies to everyone who didn't make the Top 5, but should have, because some stupid drawing of mine didn't get as many one votes.

I think Ron's suggestion of a rolling 30 day Top 5 is the best idea to date.
I would suggest that the malicious voters could be beaten by scrapping the 1 - 5 system, and make it so that a comment = a vote. If there is no comment, there is no vote, so the zappers could no longer do any harm.
It is only possible to vote once for any drawing. The comments could perhaps be controlled in the same way, so that only the first comment by each person would be counted.
