My suggestion has NO VESTED INTEREST as you will see.
1) When a TDer, thanks to his/her talent, gets enough votes to enter more than one picture in the Top 5, there could be an exception that month. I mean that the multi-pic artist would still be able to show his/her work in the Top 5 but TD would add pictures of other artists who got fewer votes. TD could add as many pics as the multi-pic artist has repeated.
AS YOU MAY SEE I NEVER EVER GET ENOUGH VOTES FOR EVEN ONE PIC, LET ALONE MORE THAN ONE. (No vested interest)

2) There could be a special "prize" for new TDers, to encourage people to stay.This "prize" could be only for artists who have been in this site for no more than 3 months. NO VESTED INTEREST, I've been here for four months.

These two ideas are suggested as only a beginning of a possible discussion and have the PURPOSE OF IMPROVING PERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS in this site. Thanks

I kinda like your idea. I'm almost done drawing for the showcase cause there is still a person or persons (accidently, maliciously, moronicly, intentionally, jealously, etc, etc) who one vote a good number of "artists" out of existence in the showcase. I like the votes and i'll probably never see a top 5. There is some amazing piks in the top five that i've seen so far so i don't know what the problem is, either they don't understand that 1 is bad and 5 is good or they are just plain damn ignorant!.

I think I've always agreed with your idea - if I understand what you're saying ! I think you mean that if someone gets enough votes for more than 1 picture in the Top 5, maybe only their best one should be in there.. maybe with a special link to other ones that made it ?.. so that other people could get to have one pic shown as well ?

I think that would be good - although we might miss some really good '2nd' pictures.. but the problem up until now has been with the crazy rating system.

At the moment, quite a few 'not so good' pictures get into the Top 5 [and I'm sorry, but a lot of my low-rated pictures have made it, at the cost of other people's much better ones - and at the cost of my better ones, too] and some people get loads of pictures included [and again, I have, too - and I haven't been proud of it].

That's why everyone is asking for a change.. but Think Draw aren't talking to us about changing the rating system. Maybe they will answer you ..?

I'd like to see a 'Junior TD' Top 5, but I don't think the 3 months rule works, because loads of people make Top 5 in their first month.

It seems to me that the problem with voting could be eliminated if the vote was simply a vote for a top five picture. You think 'it's amazing' and you vote to hope to see it make top 5. It would eliminate the 1 vote problem and spare a lot of hurt feelings that seem to be permeating this site. I'm amazed by some of the talent I see and I love going to the showcase page and the top 5 page. It's really inspiring.

You may have noticed that every month their are new artist joining the top 5 crew... So I don't believe it is stagnant...

I tried to keep my pool room alive in this ecconomy without adding liquor to my menu... Sadly, I was unable to do so & I just got my liquor license & I am EXTREAMLY short staffed...

I have gone from not having much time to draw to not having much time to comment... God knows what is next...

Anyway, between not drawing & my one vote posse you wont see me vieing for top 5 anytime soon... That will open up a spot or more every month...

There are quite a few new artist that have joined this month that are a shoe in for top 5... I am sure their will be other new artist make next moths top 5 as well...

I just like to draw, good bad or indifferent. I do agree with Doug. the one voter is still out there. I did get top five in april with two goth pictures.. nefertiti, (a lot of work and what I considered a worthy effort), and eiffel tower, (turned out OK but nothing special, more of an experiment). after top 5 was posted for maybe half of may, 'one vote" voted down my Nefertiti, sadly, I hope the voter learned that it doesn't change top 5 standings after they are posted. so I wonder what is the point? the odd thing is it was the better of the two so why not one vote the lesser effort? I don't really know.
polenta, I would have been happy to just have one in top 5, I was suprised they were there at all. my best efforts haven't really been noticed except Nef but that's Ok.
my stuff that is 'just playing around' seems to rate better. like marg says it makes me ashamed to take a spot someone else was more deserving of ..like in the water showcase. that really bothered me that my 'play picture", was in the front and other real work and art was in the back..Why?
there are some real artists on the site and marg you are one, and so are you polenta. new folk do get in top 5 and I love it when I find new people with great imagination and talent.
I do the showcases because it gives new areas to try and it stimulates my creativity.. no other reason. I will never 'wow' anyone, but I like to see if I can do some things, and many I can't. sometimes I make people laugh or think or remember, I kind of like that.

This is to answer Marg and of course everybody else who reads this. I wanted to see people get along well here.
On the one hand people like Matthew or Luna (for example last month) who with their talent get two, three , five or whatever number of pictures would feel that all their work is being thrown away and is not shown in Top 5 if we could only choose one pic per medium and per person. Therefore I would say they should have their pics exhibited LIKE NOW because they deserve it.
On the other hand other people who can never get to Top 5 because "some are so talented" or whatever reasons , but who are definitely VERY GOOD can feel discouraged if their pics CAN NEVER GET TO TOP 5 especially when there is the other problem of the voting system.
My proposal was:
if someone gets 2,3,4 or 5 pics (because of votes due to talent) he/she can be in the Top 5 but that month instead of 5 pics in a given medium there would be 6,7,8 ,9 or at most 10.
.After all there would never be more than 10 pics per medium and I think there will usually be maybe only 6 or 7.

This site is very popular with all fantastic drawers. So even though I'm new, and not very good at this, may I suggest that just one drawing per person be submitted to the case. I have noticed some persons submit several and maybe just one nice one would be better. But its only a suggestion:>

how about a viewing category like 'master work', 'expert', 'resident artist, or 'venerable contributer'..some honorable title for those who have been in top 5 say 5 times. they obviously march to the beat of a more talented drummer. their art could be exhibited and appreciated separately by pulling up a special category, wher dispayed art changed on say a monthly basis. other artists not as talented, or experienced, or as popular, or whatever would not compete with these special ones. Joe the plumber would not have to be judged with Michaelangelo, or DaVinci., yet if a new Picasso appeared he would eventually rise to the top and have resident expert status.
the experts amazing art would be visible, notable, and could be easily accessed and checked up on. they could offer their own monthly picture that they feel is their top effort without having to suffer thru a distorted rating system that frustrated time and time again.
it would be an earned system that would remove the mundane competition from the sublime creation and allow artists to create on a similar level yet allow those of different ability to be discovered and recognised. I think it might soothe many of the hard feelings we see coming foreward so frequently. what do you all think?

Gwynnib, I like what you say. I just want to reconcile people.... feelings. Having a column in the menu next to Top 5 called Top Experts or Top Artists of all Times or Residents, Top Masters etc.
I think junior TDers should also have a special reward. If they get to Top 5 the first month, then that's OK. However, if they don't there could be a category for newcomers.
