I think we should have a top 10 so more people can be a winner

Hey Brandon...

You're one of my favorite artists on this site. Really, you are.

I don't know (and don't want to know) how old you are but I'm pretty certain you're a kid.

But I'm gonna talk to you like an adult for a second. And I'm not being mean

We just had an election here in the U.S.

Mr. Obama won.

Do you think Mr. McCain should also be the President?

If you make a top 10 then why not a top 20 or a top 50 or a top 100?

When does it end?

Everyone cannot be the best.

If you read through all the other forums you'll see that a lot of people are suggesting a lot of things to make this site more fair.

I had the honor of making Top 5 this past month.

The picture I got this honor for was of an astronaut on the moon. It took me over four hours to make this pic. My hand hurt afterwards and my eyes were blurry for a week.

Doing that much work is what I call "craft". It's not really art.

But people see it and are amazed at the detail. And they call it art and vote for it.

But I look at your stuff.

Do you know the word "concept"? You have interesting concepts. I mean that you think of an idea and put it on the screen and submit it.

Your stuff is funny. It makes me laugh. And I wish more people would laugh along with me.

But there are thousands and thousands of people on this site. When you look at the gallery it's very hard to look closely at everything. We grown-ups tend to see what stands out visually.

Your concepts are fantastic.

But your "craft" needs some work. Don't get mad at me for saying that.

The craft side of art takes time - a lot of time. Not just to do it but to learn it.

Top 5 is NOT the goal. Art is the goal.

You're halfway there already. Forget about Top 5 for now. Practice, practice, practice. And guess what? It's not really practice if you like doing it. The craft part will come in time. Don't try to rush it.

I've been drawing and making videos and doing computer graphics for a long, long time.

I'd take being able to make someone laugh over any award anytime.

And guess what?

Later - when you make people laugh - you'll find you can make them cry as well.

And you can make them draw in their breath and gasp.

You can make them think.

You can make them do anything.

But you have to make yourself do those things first.

Sorry this is so long.

But you already have it. IT!

You can waste a lot of time in your life waiting for honors and awards.

Do IT because you love it and all else will follow.

Don't you dare leave this site!

Later,
Ron

What Ron said... every single word of it...

Two that ring especially in my mind-- >>I'd take being able to make someone laugh over any award anytime<<

and-- >>You can make them do anything. But you have to make yourself do those things first<<

(smiles) and yes, please do stick around.

I'll agree with the others on this as well...

If you have the concept all you need to do is keep on plodding and you'll get the craft to show it in more depth later on.

I see nothing wrong with your Top 10 idea except it most likely would be a bit much. I too see talent in your work but, you need to know not to leave rude comments like "Get a Life" under someone's work (I'm disabled!!). Kind words go a long way.

Ron, that was amazing, and applies to everyone, not just Brandon.

DMarla: I have no idea which picture Brandon might have said "Get a Life" to. But the kid kas always been polite (ridiculously so) to me.

I have a young nephew and all I can say in Brandon's defense is that as I've watched my nephew grow I've noticed his development of "wit" over time. Right around nine he discovered sarcasm and it was his only wit for a while. Silliness and antics took a back-seat to this newfound "thing".

I know in my heart that a young kid who is otherwise artistic and polite did not mean anything "cruel" by that statement.

I think, again in someone's defense I don't know, that "Get a Life" was an attempt at humor regarding the amount of great work you pour out on this site.

Again - I do not know this kid. But we dramatically restrict my nephew's ability to comment on sites such as this and I assume Brandon's parents do the same. All that considered - I hereby sincerely apologize for that gaff on his behalf.

I believe strongly in the inherent Good of people.

You're absolutely corrent to call him out on it. He needs to know it can hurt. But I doubt the intent was cruelty.

Jump in any time with that sincere apology Brandon

Anotherronism, I was not hurt by the comment at all. I just wanted to call him out on it like you said.

Hmmm.. His profile is gone as are his "works"...

I don't know that kid - but I am sad

You're right, until that day when he seemed so angry at everyone he was a lot of fun. I always enjoyed his pic's and most of his comments.
