Well we have finally heard what you have been saying for ages. We will soon be changing the ratings so that you either vote for a picture or don't!

The question is how to count existing ratings. Should all votes count? votes which are 3 and above? 4 and above? 5 only?

Help us out, what do you think?

This is a great new, thanks!!!

As to handle old pics, IMO every choise will make something going wrong regarding the intent of the voting, because we can't know what a voting was aimed to: the various 3,2,1 etc was interpreted in vary diferent ways, with 1 for example meaning to be the best (for mistake), or even the way to "downvote" a pic, a sort of punishment...

anyway, the existing pics are in a certain order in the showcases, and this order is based on the mere number of votes, no matter if they was 1,2 or 5; and cutting out the 1/2/3 votes will change this order. And also, I imagine that a differential processing of votes should request more work, so I suggest simply to make all votes count the same, as one "yes".

one vote, one point

---and thank you! (er.. can I pump for a more search-able forum yet? ...or ...wait til you're getting more sleep...?) ;>

Agree with Qsilv - one vote, one point.

One vote, one point....works for me. ;D

Shanley

I liked the idea of having 1-5 values as before . but of adding them up instead of calculating the arithmetic average. This way, even if you like even one thing about a pic, you will contribute to its final rating, even if you don't give it 5*.

one vote, one point ... works for me too. : )

one vote, one point would be great, thanks for asking.

I've always wanted exactly what Shanley says here... but it always turned out somehow to be too complicated, so the SIMPLEST solution winds up "one vote, one point".

The problem was never with the relative lowness of a one point addition... it's been with the way they were added up-- making it possible to use low voting not as a weak addition but as an actual VETO.

The only veto should be a "knock clean out of the ring" by using the "Report" button, and even that only as an attention getting flag -- requiring not only multiple reports but Rachel's approval.

I would LOVE to be able to offer --and receive -- five levels (maybe with hover hints to their meanings?) kind of like... mild encouragement /medium approval /excellent contribution /superlative interpretation /jaw-dropping ground-breaking... (ok I'm being silly but you get the point --we could learn more from these gentle nudges) ;>

oh crap... I'm doing too many things at one time. Sorry! TD's already decided to do the one vote thing in future.

What they're asking for here is how we want to calculate the extant votes.

One point per star. ;>

five

I'd freeze the past in place, and do yes/no vote when the month starts again (in July). No one can consider their intention altered, then.

If TD must go back and translate old votes into yes/no, I'd say everything that got a vote regardless of the number from 1 to 5 should be a yes; I suspect in general, 1 votes are either a mistake or an intentional down vote, and in the few cases in which that's not the case, I like to think no one will really complain.

One vote = one point (no star rating) , leave favorites intact please.

Brunnhilde

... and where does making a picture into a favourite come into this? I welcome a single vote which I shall expect to be given for excellence of any kind - wit, artistry, and if the drawer is a child, then an appropriate appreciation - at least that is how I will act ... which only goes to show that there is a need for guidance from TD. Some "rules" on how TD works in this and other ways. For instance, I have realised that marking a favourite does seem to count as a mark in some way, but in what way?

And I agree, backdating the marking would be pointless.

I agree with five: one vote, one point, starting in July.

Let's keep it simple, one vote, one point. In the past a choice of 1-5 seem to confuse some of our artists. I really don't think a one vote which sometimes was given, was meant to hurt anyone as most of our artists seem really nice people. Oh and yes, let's start the new system from July. Thanks TD.

One vote = one point, please.

If past voting can't be frozen in time on the last day of the current month, then I understand your question to mean 'what to do about it?' My guess is that it would throw past Top5s out of balance. I for one have had my moments of glory and would not object to being knocked off my perch. But maybe this is not the problem. Have I misunderstood you?

I agree with the idea of 1 vote, 1 point. I ditto Brunnhilde as to how marking a favorites counts? (just curious). Thanks TD for asking us our opinions.

Thanks Think Draw for asking our opinion. I am glad you will be taking away the 1-5 rating system and ending the controversy over "negative voting" forever. And I agree with what I think is being said. If you have to change voting that has already taken place, any vote that has been given from 1 to 5 should count as a yes vote in a new system that only allows a yes (or no?) for a picture.

If you are still considering the options for voting, I tentatively like the idea of having a rating system that is additive instead of averaged, but am concerned it might still lead to negative feelings when votes that are lower than 5 are given, and keeping it a simple yes or no might be the best solution.

And, will we still have the option to "favorite?"

I agree with everyone having the chance to vote 1 point for those they like and give a favourite if they wish. I gave a 4 to something I really liked when I first started and was mortified when it meant that someones 5 star rating went down!

Normal

I would agree with Shanley's system, but also agree with most others that the simpler, the better! One vote, one point, please. Also starting in July with no messing about on past offerings. Thanks, TD!
