Usually around the 4th or 5th.

That gives a decent margin of time for voting to accumulate on pictures submitted in the last day or two of the month.

I always thought that the 'Top 5' was based on a snapshot as at midnight on the last day - are you saying that it isn't ? .. maybe we can confirm..

or the most favorited...i'd really like to know the how pics are chosen for top5...it got really confusing ever since one of Danila's pics didn't make it despite being the most rated pic for that category...

C'mon, folks... remember (those of you who've been around long enough --and newcomers, if you're that all-fired interested, you can wander back through the forum chats from almost a year ago) those non-halcyon days when instead of bitching about lost drawings, the whole place was in an uproar over skewed voting???

No system is perfect, not even major ones like sports, kennel/horse shows, Oscars, Nobels... let's just leave this one in TD's benevolently mysterious hands for a long while yet.

I'm with Qsilv on this. I don't want to know how they decide. I believe it's a combination of votes and favorites. But since they've made it so we don't know exactly how it's picked we've seen not only a stop in everyone complaining about voting but just about a complete stop in the whole business of unscrupulous people trying to manipulate the voting system. So long as no one but the TD staff know how it works then one voting nonsense and whatnot will continue being minimal.

Well, from this point of view...you are probably right...But even if we did know, the combination of favorites and ratings would prevent manipulating tricks...or maybe not, depending on the complexity of the system...I was just curious.

Whoops, sorry - what I meant was just 'when are they selected', so don't know where 'criteria' popped up from, as that no doubt depends on some arcane formula that TD use ! Let me rephrase..

ThinkDraw, can you please let us know when the cut-off time for Top 5 is - is it midnight on the last of the month, or some time after ?

OK QSilv and Heidi - I grasped the concept. I wasn't here when the last flame about ratings appeared, but I could perfectly imagine... OK, I also wish mysterious criteria!

Top 5 for February is out - we try to do it on the 3rd of each month, but sometimes it is later.

The pictures are chosen by a combination of their ratings and the number of times they have been favorited until the time that we release the list.

Hiya ThinkDraw..

Sorry to be a bit thick, but does that mean that you take a snapshot as at the 3rd-4th of the month, so that everyone can rate pics and add to their favourites during the first couple of days in the month (or down-rate, by checking 'last month') ?

Or is the snapshot taken at midnight on the last day of the month, but it just takes a couple of days to schedule some time to process and release the Top 5 (in which case, no worries, we're happy whenevr you get around to it) ?

Sorry, should have been clearer. All votes and favorites up to the time the list is released are counted.

We hadn't actually thought about the votes being messed with in those few days, so maybe it would have been better not to be clear!
