I have, had numerous good pictures rated really low for no reason that I could see. Is this someone's genuine opinion or a callous and cowardly attempt to ruin the ratings. The latter seems more reasonable because anyone honest would not try to hide there identity. Remaining anonymous and destroying a pictures credibility with the ratings is an abuse within the Think Draw community. If I am being unreasonable please post your arguments against this topic. Thank you.

Votes should be only 5 ( I thought 4 and 5 before) and not anonymous. This would solve all this forever. I'm sorry for what's happened to you.

five

Steve, double check to see that a vote of your own did not accidentally register on your picture. Not saying this is what happened, because there are people who just vote pictures down. However, a number of my last pictures somehow ended up with a "1" vote when I titled them. Since I saw this happening in real time, I went back, recorded a "5" as a test vote on the pictures that it happened to (I never vote on my own pictures, and only did here to reverse what had happened; votes for your own pictures don't count in the TD algorithm, btw) and the "1" vote disappeared (entirely, not just a reduction in its effect on the average), confirming that in these very recent cases, there was a problem with the site and not someone else simply voting the picture down.

Hello! I'm new here....does this mean, that I have to comment each time, when I'm voting a picture? Sigh...and all in english....my head will be smoking...
And Polenta is right, votes should be only five!

Steve, I'm sorry what's happening to you. But, I think, many of us are getting the unreasonable low ratings from someone who is very childish or actually a child. This issue has constantly been brought up in this community and I really wish TD will change the system as Polenta mentioned.

Ansara, I understand how you feel because I often have problems writing English too! No, you don't have to comment every time as long as you vote reasonable and respectful to the other.

ansara, welcome to think draw, you need not make a comment, and if you have a picture you particularly like, you can add to favourites as well, its all down to you.

polenta this voting system is tricky, I want people to have the choices they have, as long as the rates and comments are based on honest opinions. I'm worried that a minority are using the system to upset the ratings on artwork. For reasons as yet I can not fathom. Personally if I like a picture in particular then I will vote 5 (always) and probably leave a constructive comment of some sort. If the picture is not to my taste then I leave it alone. Simple. Perhaps I am being a little too sensitive about this...

I saw, that here are many kids, maybe they don't think about it. Or you're having a "TROLL" here...

There will always be down voters. I have gotten a ton of 1star votes on my pics, my last drawing has like ten 1star votes lol, but I don't really care, a down vote wont jeopardize your chance of making top5, if it did, imagine how all the top5's would be like. Based off my observations in the past, most of them are newcomers who don't understand the voting system yet, so you can't really blame them, and you wont get the chance to explain to them how it works cause they're not around long enough for you to do so.

I've just found out that what Five said. I misspelled the title of my pic, one of our fellow commented it, I fixed the title, then the vote 1 appeared. So I voted 5 (the first time!) for my pic as Five said, then vote 0 disappeared, which I didn't know unless hearing from Five.

This is not a mistake, all of my pictures are being targeted with a low vote by someone, this is annoying as I am not sure how this affects the overall position within the gallery. If this has a detrimental effect on the standing of a picture then the voting system can be manipulated by downgrading pictures that would ordinarily do well. I know that some people have there own methods and standards of course, I expect that! But I have been using Think Draw since January and this seems to be a recent development, not random. Oh well rant aside I suppose there is nothing to be done and if this is some ones idea of humour then perhaps they will tire of it soon.

Sorry for what's been happening to you. What I consider my best pictures are also the ones that are down-voted. We should ask Rachel to review the 1-4 points and only have a 5.

Voting down pictures was a major issue from way back in the beginning of Think Draw. It caused a lot of aggravation and there was a long campaign to get rid of the 1 - 5 voting system. Not all TDers agreed so the system remains. However, some of the sting was eventually taken out of the down vote when TD adjusted the voting system:
(a) by discounting the lowest vote on each drawing and
(b) by introducing the Favourites button.

The number of 'favourites' is also taken into account when calculating Top 5 ... but we don't know the formula / mix for these two voting methods.

Some folk don't use the 'favourites' as a vote. They use it purely to select the drawings that they want to go back to again and again. We all have our own preferences for its use.

The vast majority of TDers vote logically and fairly. We have jogged along quite amicably since the adjustments to the voting system, and the recent spate of down voting is best ignored as something mildly irritating but futile.

I have another problem to address, I have noticed recently that some people have stopped voting altogether, this is to me just as frustrating as receiving a low vote. One of the things I like to see is appreciation for the work, and culmination of that appreciation, resulting in a Top 5 placement. But no matter how much work I put into a picture these days it struggles and labours to acquire the votes that the picture deserves. I even found myself campaigning for votes recently. I can't do that it smacks of desperation and if I feel forced to get people to sit up and take notice then it is not worth my while, I like the people on this site, and I really like the idea behind the site. But if there is no appreciation for work that is of a high standard and has taken many hours to prepare, then what is happening! Look back through the gallery and see what standard of pictures accumulated 40+ votes - then look at some of the votes on quality work now, it is frustrating. It took me almost a year of practice, over 300 pictures, and now I feel I need to beg for votes. Sorry but that is how I feel.

Steve don't mind, I understand your frustration, I can just see that I saw an awesome improvement in your pics, that I enjoyed so much to see...

The appreciations are more clearly expressed in comments, anyway I can't deny that to be in top5 is rewarding.
Anyway, top5 is not so meaningful as evaluation of the value of a pic. I.E. I had a top5 with the greatest voting that is a cartoon (Love music and italian cuisine), I think that half of the voting shoulg to to Walt Disney.... and another top5 in beads (caius julius), both of them are far less good than my pic of Francisco Goja, than had not the top5 yet.

I apologise if I too bothered you with my thoughts.
I like to be voted, but I do care more of comments, they are very important for me.

Steve, I do see your point about feeling a lack of votes but I'll put in my point of view too. Personally I stopped voting quite a while ago when there was a big stink on th site about down-voting. I stopped because there were frequently times when I saw a pic that I wanted to vote for but which I didn't feel was quite a 5 for me. People get very insulted if they get anything less than a 5 and I felt like I was unable to give an honest vote anymore. I felt like it had to be 5 or nothing, which is not the way the current system is set up. So I decided to stop voting altogether and I've felt liberated ever since. I was very happy when the Favorites button was introduced because I could now express my appreciation in a way that didn't include a 1-5 vote system. If TD ever went to a simple vote/no vote system (ei: a button which says Like or something of that sort) I would happily start voting again, but until that happens (and it seems unlikely that it will) I will continue to abstain from voting. I've never made a secret of the fact that I don't vote, and if that means that others decide not to vote for my pics then that's something I'm willing to risk.
I'm not saying Steve is wrong, he's not, he's got a really valid point. I just wanted to put another point of view out there.

Both points of view are valid.

Has anyone noticed that there are also people voting but not commenting. That's understandable ... TD can consume hours of our time if we let it (when time is available), so I understand why some TDers would look in, vote on those pictures that caught their eye and then dash away again (or carry on drawing).

Another point; not all art appeals to all people. I can't stand Picasso's style but am enthralled by Van Gough's. Someone else may have the opposite point of view ... it's just a matter of personal taste.

The 'vote/no vote' idea has always appealed to me and I'e voted only 5's since the spate of tactical voting reached it's peak a year or so ago, whether the drawing shows genius or is simply better than average. Hopefully, my comments clarify how impressed I am. If I comment and don't vote, it's purely accidental ... and don't be downhearted Steve. Voting is very slow at the moment. The change of season is possibly responsible ... too much distraction and not so much time available for playing on Think Draw.

I have become one of the many "poppers" since my promotion... Time has become very precious to me, so when I do squeeze time in, all I can do is quickly vote & favorite & move on... a comment has become very rare for me...
Don't know about the # of votes decreasing 'cause I haven't tracked it... Perhaps there are just less active people on TD currently... Surely nobody is not voting for spiteful reasons...
Try drawing naked @ sunrise... perhaps that may help...
