Hey everybody,
As I said in the showcase discussion, I believe a challenge on posters for movies is a very interesting thing. I am not sure however if this should be a challenge or a collection. I wouldn't make it a challenge for two reasons:
- the ongoing two challenges that are already traditional here are always fun and keep up us 'busy' pretty much, so I thought it might be a bit disrespectful (maybe I'm exaggerating a bit, I dont know how others would feel..)
- there would be too much pressure to put another deadline (sure, we could have it going for a month or so, but still...); besides I'm not sure who would assume picking the first time. Personally, that's the only thing i don't like about challenges: chosing just one pic. Furthermore, I think this is indeed challenging, given the two choices we have here: copying a good poster for the sake of improving our tehnique or making a poster out of our imagination for developing our ideas and exposing our own point of view.
Therefore, I will appreciate your feeedback on the organization of this - challenge vs. collection and I'll appreciate even more getting it started.
(Thank you Q for the encouragement, the minute I read your reply i thought that even for the delight of seeing another Q masterpiece it's worth trying this ).

I'm all for it either being a challenge or a collection. Back in the day when the forum was brand new people would throw challenges out all the time. At the beginning it was just a way to inspire people and get to see pictures of something you really like. Typically there was no 'winner' chosen for these and no time limit, they would just sort of fall out of the front of the forum list as fewer people posted pictures or got bored with the subject. At some point an artist named Mugdots started a challenge to draw monarch butterflies and said she'd choose a winner to choose the next subject. That was how the Mugdots challenges started. Sadly, Mugdots no longer comes on Think Draw (and she is very much missed) but I suppose you could say a legacy continues in the Mugdots challenge. Another artist (I'm sorry I can't remember who) started the Golden Pen challenge in much the same fashion, it's the other challenge that runs regularly though I don't think anyone calls it the Golden Pen challenge anymore.
Well, there's a little TD history lesson for everyone. If I've gotten any of it wrong feel free to correct me.

I like the idea of an ongoing collection, Shanley ... and thanks to Dragon for starting us off. G'night all ... I need some beauty sleep (or a bucket of botox).

that's a very cool poster, Dragon and thank you for getting this started. I had came across Mugdots in one of my searches for something inspiring her, nevertheless I was still curious how these challenges had begun. Well, we'll make it a collection in this case. I suppose putting cool things in here, should be as fun and welcome as any other good work. Thank you both for giving me your opinions on this. Good night from Bucharest too. It's very late here and i really should be sleeping.
