Sorry I have to bring this up, it should have to be.

Question: Did someone do something in someones cheerios that this someone swept through the showcase showering "low-votes". That's a low and nasty thing to do. I'm sure all affected agree. Of course the higher count pics weren't affected.

km, I noticed this last night, and so dissappointed that "many" were voted low, and many, that were voted low were daily drawers. I suppose the persons who did this feel elated and some what powerful. There are other ways to have fun and games on this site.
I hope that it stops, as it is disheartening to the regulars here!

Mmm ... it's a pity. Dreamweaver's 'girl at vanity' has the highest votes in showcase and it's been knocked down to 4.75 ... there's a lot of pictures that don't belong in there, too.

It happened in the "Light" showcase, too. We can't control it, so I'm just ignoring it.

Login, you brought up an interesting point -- I often wish that someone would periodicately look in the Showcase and remove any works that don't fit the theme.

Altough we know that there is some evil lurking in Tdland, a part of it is what i would call the summer solstice. Its that time of year when the youngun's are out of school and probably spend a lot of time on the computer. Those on the artistic side might be drawn to this site for the same reason a lot of us are, to express ourselves. When i first came here, I didn't know what a 5 was or a 1. They could be thinking that a 1 is the highest vote or best vote you can get!. I don't think it explains that anywhere except for our monthly complaints about the "vote down". The other part is what I always say "it is what it is" and its not going to change. Kids play and adults do too. The showcase has become a "nocase" as far as I'm concerned. Its supposed to show off your work, not have it buried like the regular gallery. I'm done with this subject. At least for another month. lol.

yep, me too -- 'cept for my monthly echo:

The "buried" issue could be _easily_ resolved by adding the SEARCH feature to the SHOWCASES
-- filtering by Most Votes or Highest Rating or Chronologically --

I sometimes think that these threads "trigger" increased low voting. "They" seem to thrive when they see we get upset. What if we just ignored it for a bit, hard as it may be?

I made the comment because I think it's mean and immature to do that. There's bigger issues to address. It's right up there with throwing tomatoes at someone or buckets of paint on their work. Just mean.

Well, I am going to ignore it! It's very upsetting to see the vote down, but then this a.m. realized it really doesn't matter, as these drawings will be in the TOP 5.
So the persons doing the vote down, will eventually realize this!

I feel the more we comment on the troll/s's activities, the more satisfaction he/she/it/they get, and the more voting down he/she/it/they will do......
I see some top 5 drawings voted down and it makes me sad, yet it doesn't change the beauty of any of the work....

11. 12 Jul 2009 08:44

kmkagle

I know we can't do anything about. I'm stressing that it is just Sad.

lilalee, actually the ones that have been voted down won't be in the top five. It is very rare for a picture that doesn't have a perfect 5 vote to make top 5, no matter how many votes it got.

nod --- which makes Top 5 a bit of a farce these days.

As TD grows in age, plus sheer volume of drawings, many really interesting pictures get buried deeper and deeper, even if we browse the main Gallery sorted by Most Ratings.

Top 5 used to be an effective way of breaking that main Gallery into sections.

TD is functioning ok as a public park, but the use of voting did suggest friendly competition and at least some degree of ranking.

You know, for me the very worst thing is that they vote you down and give you no feedback.

I mean if it's legitimate dislike or there is room for improvement I'm an adult I can take some constructive criticism, in fact I would like it, it would help me grow.

If you put a low vote on a piece and leave no comment as to why you are just being malicious.

It's why I still don't vote. I see no reason to use a broken system that is blaring alarms at us all "I'M BROKEN!" "I AM IN NEED OF REPAIR!"

I feel like I'm in grade school again only now instead of it being the "Cool Kids" getting away with murder and the rest of us paying for it, we don't even know who it is.

Someone does.

15. 14 Jul 2009 16:08

Qsilv

hm. What if the system is NOT broken, but functioning as it's actually meant to...

...handicapping those who are overly-skilled, equalizing them to the level of average visitors to this 'public playground', encouraging them to do some judicious "dumbing-down" of their own efforts?

(wry twinkle.... only half serious here... but...)

The same thought had occurred to me, Qsilv. I threw the thought out as 'daft' ... but it keeps revisiting me.

If that were true wouldn't it therefore have to be Rachel or someone else at TD doing it?

That would jive with the "Experiment" theory.

And it would really make me mad!

That’s probably just the headache talking; run this by me again when I’ve slept and I’ll think it’s a brilliant idea.

Rachel wouldn't need to. She could simply allow users to do it.... there are always such people available.

Societies make rules to avoid just such chaos, but in un-tampered-with nature, entropy rules.

Experiment or not... This site has given to me more than I can give back... I was 41 yrs old when my wife introduced me to it...

***My 1st thought was a roll of the eyes @ another silly website that the wife has tripped over... but I gave it a whack... My 1st attempt was on my wife's account http://www.thinkdraw.com/picture.php?pictureId=8785 impressed me... I have no artistic talent, but this turned out pretty good I thought...

***I then created my own account & continued playing... I learned that if I was patient enough, I could take what I saw in my mind & eventually I could create a picture that quite resembled what I had in mind...

***I have streached my imagination & have attempted more & more difficult projects... Constantly improving...

***I have taken what I learned here & have become more patient in the real world & am quite pleased with the results I get...

***So no matter the frustrations TD may bring... I can't thank them enough for the good things they have FREELY given me...

I totally agree, as I've said to many when they start complaining about the whole thing, "Then don't come on."

I keep coming back, sometimes there are fustration and mayhem (oh, right that's all in my head...) but the end of the matter is, IMHO, better with it than without.
