May we have a showcase for drawings in 'Faces'. I would hate to see this category disappear.

I think putting 'faces' back in Top5 would work better...

I hope this can be read by Rachel Lee. It's again to ask you about the promised new theme or category. You said in June/July that it would take about two months. I would appreciate it if you could tell us something about it since Avatars was not so widely accepted.

Is it just me, or does it seem like there are a whole lot of pictures in the Showcase that have absolutly nothing to do with 'Beginnings'? I know it happens with every showcase that people throw things in there that don't belong either because they don't understand how it works or because they're trying to get their pic noticed or something, but I was just looking at the current one and it looked like there were only a few that actually fit.

Actually, I was a bit confused about this showcase. I mean, it sounds like such a general theme: starting from the Big Bang, going to anything that dates back to the beginning of humanity, of the plannet (or whatever) almost anything can be related to the showcase. Then I remembered the original suggestion was birth so I threw a cute baby playing in there (as a beginning of...erm... developing intelligence? ) .So i guess, sometimes maybe the author can see a connection with a showcase that it's not immediately obvious to the others. And, yes, sometimes it's an 'accurate' missuse of a showcase.

It's not just you Dragon and I'm glad you've brought it up. I always expect that in the current showcase, things will get filtered out eventually. However, I do admit to being a bit mystified, as to why the first two highest voted pictures of the last showcase were there. They were definitely award winning, there's no doubt about that, but what was the connection? Can someone enlighten me?

One of those two artists admitted to being in competition with someone else and put it in showcase to get more votes. They are both excellent drawings and were always going to be winners so why they did that I fail to understand.

Oh...I'd very curious to know if I guessed this right: was there a competition between the second pic and the first? Anyway, Login is right, both pics are wonderful and would've been noticed without being added to the showcase.

marius

marius brought this up in another thread, has not seen it mentioned elsewhere and it sort of fits in with showcases ... but it'd be nice if there were separate galleries that featured previously submitted work in a category format.

I see these as "learning galleries." For example, if I wanted to draw a portrait, I could go to the portrait gallery, watch playbacks, see which style most appeals and try my own. Or, if I wanted to draw a nature scene, I could go to that gallery. Or, the same for drawing an animal or a design.

Not sure how easy or difficult this would be ... but Login has already started the idea with her "A collection of cycles, motorbikes and cars" thread. The only problem with her collection is that the pictures are thumbnails and it's not "easy viewing."

Have even thought if this would be too difficult to implement, perhaps old pictures could be added to showcases? Not sure how it's work, just know I'd enjoy this feature.

Thanks for the comments about the 'Beginnings' Showcase. We have tried to clear it up as best as possible - if your picture has been wrongly removed, please just write to let us know.

Also, any new Showcase suggestions would be welcome....

Thanks!

marius has had a brilliant idea, especially if speaking about portraits and landscapes. Maybe it's difficult to implement.
Rachel, I haven't seen the edited showcase yet but thanks in advance.

I loved one of the challenges that was fables. We could make a showcase of that. Or bugs. Or how about an "I Spy"? My son thinks that would be fun. Kind of like the books where you look for hidden objects.

I would like to see Qsilv's challenge in a showcase... It was BY FAR the most popular challenge we have ever had... It was called Challenge XXII - Seeing Double!!...

Here is the link to it...

I've been giving this some thought for several days ...being selected by Arw65 from the Portraits challenge just gives me the chance to see if it interests you folks too!

Wouldn't you love to see what various pix would look like if they were done using different tools?

Make as exact a copy as possible (like when everyone was doing Baldur's icon) - but USE A DIFFERENT PALETTE for the copy.

So, for instance, my Mother Goose was done in Flowers... how similar a version could I make using Avatars? or Fruit? Candy? Animals?

You can make both pix new yourself for this, or use an old one as the "original" --your own OR someone else's.

Have fun... show me some amazing similarities, and lots of rich differences!

In commentary, we can discuss problems we run into ...not finding a workable background leaps to mind... or needing an element with a particular angle...

Challenge ends Saturday Dec 19, midnight SL time (that's 9pm for me, about 6am Sunday in Europe)

Nice idea, matthew ... but it's in the wrong forum.

marg

no, no, Login.. ignore 98% of what matthew said and just look at the salient first 11 words..

..and the 'Seeing Double' ..

.. and I like the idea, but we just did that ??1?

How is a showcase suggestion in the showcase suggestions forum wrong???

179. 8 Jan 2010 06:17

marg

matthew..

there's nothing wrong with the showcase suggestion, but you copied Qsilv's entire post from a different Forum.. it looked like you were suggesting a challenge (which we've just done)..

..and I was just saying that if Login looked at the salient (relevant) words, she'd understand what you were suggesting..

lol... well I like it too and might love to see it again in a year...
BUT for now I think it's gotten pretty well used up...
AND... login's own challenge for Duo-Tones garnered about an equal amount of interest and action!
