To make it more like the voting in an actual art show.

At the end of each month (or whenever the cutoff date is for the showcase), and all entries have been submitted:

everyone votes for their top 5 (or 3), in each of the categories: flowers, fruit, goth, etc.

and, they vote for their top five in the showcase. They can vote for only 5.

The votes aren't displayed or announced until the voting period is over.

Yes, we'd have to wade through a few pages to vote. And one piece of artmay get two votes from the same person if it's in their top five in both the showcase as well as a category.

But it makes for a more realistic and fair scenario.

The abuse of the system that I have become the poster boy for is still there in your senario LadyO... One could simply create 100 login accounts & vote for his or her own pics for top 5...

Your idea works... So does the nearly unanimous favorite of accumulative voting only if the site can limit the number of user logins one computer can have...

I personally hope they don't limit to less than 3 because I like my wife & daughter having seperate user id's... but I am good with any limit as long as their is one...

well, yeah, there is that flaw. that will always be there. but this seems more realistic to me, and cuts out the voting based on how many votes (or lack thereof) a piece has during the competition.

I don't think there are, in actuality, that many multiple voters out there. The ones that get me are the ones who low-vote, or withhold votes to sway the outcomes.

Yes, matthew can draw, vote, log out, log in, vote again, do this ad nauseam, help with mom, work, comment, .... must have one of those time-turners Hermonie has at Hogwarts!

ok.... so back to matthew's first comment.... i wonder would they limit the number of logins created on a computer, or limit the number of logins that computer can access....for example i often use my mothers computer as well as my own..... and vice verse... many people have multiple computers in there home, or use computers at library's, cybercafe's etc. couldn't the just create accounts on multiple computers and then access them from their home? IDK I'm just thinking outloud. oh and I for one agree with LadyO... Martha Stewart in a thong..... not something i wanna see.... nor anyone else in a thong for that matter

No votes, no thongs.

Gotta say, I think I'd rather see Martha Stewart with a thong than without one if, you know what I mean.

why cant you just set up the voting so that you only get one vote per IP address?

Rachel said she was thinking on idea of us having a favorites page and that it could be what picks the winners in some way. I like this idea because only those with the ability to have a favorites page would be counted in the results for the winners in Top 5 and probably the showcase as well. This way we wouldn't have to wade through all the drawings to pick our favorites because we will be putting them on our page as we see them. After we get five for a medium maybe it could be set up not to allow for any more. I would like to have a personal favorites page too where we just save our favorites of others as well as ours.

That's a neat idea!
