The showcase has over thirty drawings in there that don't appear to have anything to do with 'Landmarks' ... or perhaps it's just me that's not getting the connection.

Baldur

So I'm guessing we can submit anything. I checked the showcase and you seem to be correct Login.

I could redo my pole dancer self portrait... But I would have to censor my "landmark"....

4. 9 Apr 2009 18:42

Baldur

oh it's ok matthew, landmarks aren't necessarily very large. Punxsutawney Phil's Hole comes to mind.

...Sigh...

Didn't Rachel use to remove unrelated pics ? .. 'cause there's no way of doing it yourself, if you realise that it shouldn't be there..

... It seems to me that she clears it out about once a week...

Wow! Just went to the Showcase, and what happened?? Its confusing to look at with all the unrelated Landmark drawings!

I think landmarks might be open to interpretation. rather than thinking of a location or place related object people may see things like weddings, graduations, bar mitzvas, and even birthdays as time related landmarks, we do have some very young TD people who may not see landmarks the same way. just a thought. I wasn't sure about nefertiti, but she was associated with a place and a dynasty. should I remove her? I don't mind if that is consensus

marg

I think there was a lot of confusion between the showcase subject 'Landmarks' and Baldur's topic 'Where in the world?' - so Nefertitie ISN'T a landmark, but does pose the 'where in the world' question.

Anyway, you can't remove her - only Rachel can do that (and don't even think of deleting her !).

Hopefully, Rachel is having a break and will tidy up some totally unrelated pics soon.

hi guys! First off, If I put anything in there that wasn't supposed to be, and annoyed anyone with that, my appologies. However, I'm VERY confused now! At first I did very specific landmarks like "canal street" or Loch Ness. Those I'd hope are obvious. Finally I created things like "third rock" (I sure hope that stays because it's the biggest landmark we know LOL), "rock climbing", "avalanche" and salmon during storm. The later three have been removed from the showcase. So far, fine, I figured they didn't NAME a specific landmark. However, in the shocase remain (and I mean NO offense to anyone) pictures such as "island life", "seashore", "*A*Mountain", "rolling hills", "california sunshine". And now I'm completely and utterly confused. How is a seashore a landmark but salmontravel isn't? "A mountain" is but rock climbing isn't. And "Avalanche".....If I'd written "skiing in the Alps" or "going down Mount Everest" instead of Avalanche, THEN would it qualify?

You see why I'm lost here? Please can someone explain this to me and shed some light. Thanks!!

PS: I hope those who'se pictures I mentioned won't get upset, I'm not trying to pick on anyone, just pulled some samples I noticed.

(40 minutes later)
ok, NOW I'm irked!
I just noticed that my "Brandenburg Gate" has been removed! The others (previous post) just left me questions where the line is drawn, but THIS? If the Brandenburg Gate isn't a landmark, then this whole showcase should be blank! That ain't right!

Ok, done venting...for now! LOL

Your "Brandenburg Gate" is in the middle of the 2nd page. I guess landmarks is a tough one to call. If there are any pictures you want put back, try sending a message via the feedback form and it will probably happen.

!?!?!?!? I think I'm losing my mind! I am SURE it wasn't there when I posted this earlier..... Maybe I need new glasses? LOL

I don't want to sound like a kid screaming "but he has one, too" demanding my pictures back in there. If they removed them, I'm sure they were thinking *something*. Just can't make sense of it...
Mainly, I'm just trying to figure out WHAT so I can move on to future showcases without cluttering them with things people think don't belong in there.

I don't get it either kugusch... This showcase is a tough one to figure... I have "vauge" landmarks like an island... I bet the "title" has something to do with it... Get rid of the "action part of your titles perhaps...

...But the final choice is Rachel's...

...She has made errors in the past when removing items... Send her a comment via the feedback link & she can fix deletions for you...

Well..to my mind, the following shouldn't be in there, regardless of how you interpret the topic :

http://www.thinkdraw.com/picture.php?pictureId=35587
http://www.thinkdraw.com/picture.php?pictureId=35732
http://www.thinkdraw.com/picture.php?pictureId=35710

and the first 2 of those are by a newbie, who probably thinks it's how to get your pic into the gallery (as so many have done before)

these are questionable, but relate in some way to a land, country or countryside (not a landmark) :
http://www.thinkdraw.com/picture.php?pictureId=35334
http://www.thinkdraw.com/picture.php?pictureId=34216
http://www.thinkdraw.com/picture.php?pictureId=35358
http://www.thinkdraw.com/picture.php?pictureId=34563
http://www.thinkdraw.com/picture.php?pictureId=35054
http://www.thinkdraw.com/picture.php?pictureId=34376
http://www.thinkdraw.com/picture.php?pictureId=35218
http://www.thinkdraw.com/picture.php?pictureId=34324
http://www.thinkdraw.com/picture.php?pictureId=34274
http://www.thinkdraw.com/picture.php?pictureId=34338
http://www.thinkdraw.com/picture.php?pictureId=34866

I still think the problem's with the ambiguity.. but I'd be interested to see if anyone agrees / disagrees with the ones I've identified above ?

Brandenburg Gate is currently in the centre of page 2 of Showcase, Kugusch. I was just about to appeal on your behalf, then decided to look for it first ... success!

Marg, the first three you show have been removed, along with some others; the rest that you posted are still there. They are "places" but not "landmarks". There are still others that are not either, and don't belong.

...Carmon Sandiego fans will know the song "WHERE IN THE WORLD" IS CARMON SANDIEGO... and the Landmark showcase is titled "Where in the world"... So it fits...

land⋅mark   /ˈlændˌmɑrk/ Show Spelled Pronunciation [land-mahrk] Show IPA
–noun 1. a prominent or conspicuous object on land that serves as a guide, esp. to ships at sea or to travelers on a road; a distinguishing landscape feature marking a site or location.

An island can be a landmark for a ship, so Island life & Galapagos island works for me...

A large rock formation at the seashore can be a landmark so that one works too...

I am not sure what the artist was thinking with the others, but not sure how they fit...

But regardless, the showcases are just for fun...

So enjoy...

Yeah, ,well, as I said earlier, I think there was a lot of confusion between the showcase subject 'Landmarks' and Baldur's topic 'Where in the world?'.

The ones in my second group were NOT landmarks, but might pose the 'where in the world' question - and actually, your toucan maybe should have been in the 2nd group. However, I don't make the decisions - I'm just chucking some thoughts into the forum.
