My drawings and others are struggling to get a vote of 2 or 3 now a days. I even voted for myself to get the votes of 2 or 3 and you all know I can draw have way decent. This is not fun any more. I'm drawing now just to draw and share. Even with the votes of 2-3, I managed to get one picture to have a vote of 4 and it got a vote of 1 shortly after. It is just hard to know if anyone is even enjoying these drawings since the comments are few as well. I don't have a solution just saying what I feel.

Thanks Matthew, the last picture only had your vote for the longest time. I feel like I'm being pushed to get better and that that isn't working except for me to get more frustrated. To top it off some of my drawings are better or just as good as those that are getting all the votes. Some people clearly have been drawing longer then I have or have more talent but my drawings are not even getting a notice it seems. Another thing some pictures that are not even good in my book are getting these high marks. A few of my pictures if placed on another person's page as their own work would of gotten 20 votes or more instead of my vote of 2-3. I hate this voting system.

don't kte whether you get votes or not reflect what you think people think of your pictures. With the new animation thing, and the diffewrent showcases and challenges, i feel people are drawing more, and therefore voting less.
I wouldn't take getting no votes as people pushing you to do better. It could be any of a number of reasons, from maybe the time you submitted it meant it got lost in the gallery (mt problem, in australia, everyone is alseep when i submit and when i wake up it is pages down the gallery and been missed by everyone). To people are busy working on their own pictures.

Draw because you want to. Get better because you want to. People will notice. You are never going to change people's alliances with certain people on here. The only thing you can do is keep going, and hope to win over a little fan base of your own. I'm sure there are people out there who follow your work. Just because they might not vote/comment all the time, doesn't mean you are not getting noticed.

five

DMarcella, sorry you are feeling down about this. I have lots of drawings that pass through with few votes or comments, and I've had some very good pictures voted down. Sometimes, it's timing -- drawings move through faster some times or someone gets on and votes a string of low votes probably as a prank. I think there probably are people who vote 5 on everything they vote on, not wanting to be the one to knock someone's drawing into oblivion, and people who prefer to comment rather than vote or vote rather than comment. Some people I'm sure forget that commenting and voting have to be done separately and end up doing one or the other (would be nice if the comment and vote could be submitted together). And probably, a few people are malicious on their votes, especially if they know it's going to be hurtful to someone (which they would know with certainty if they read comments on the forum). And people may genuinely think a picture that others gave a five deserves a four or three, perhaps comparing it to other work by the same artist that they thought was better in comparison, rather than comparing it to all the artists on the site.

I suspect if there were no voting system, people would be bothered by not being able to give feedback when they wanted to give it and not being able to see their drawings rise in ratings. Any voting system can be gamed.... someone could solicit lots of people to vote for them (this gets done on Saatchi Online Showdown, a website for artists to submit their work to a voting system) and people can vote down the competition to help their own chances. Why someone would on a site that's not giving out prizes is beyond me, but when egos are involved, perhaps that's enough for some.

All of this is to say don't draw for the votes or comments, draw because you enjoy it, because it challenges you, because you feel yourself getting better, etc.. Look at favorable or helpful responses as bonuses, not end goals, and ignore the rest.

I've voted five on lots of your drawings, and you should keep it up, whether on or off TD.

I think its going to get worse too, with all the new members;
pictures go through the gallery way fast some times..that and the pages take a long time to load now and if you vote then you gotta wait again and again if you leave a comment.

I can tell you DMarcella that I do enjoy your work, sorry if I haven't commented, like matthew said, keep em coming

Just read your post DMarcella and I can sympthatize(sp). But I've noticed alot of people don't make comments or vote. Some just come on to draw. If I really like something, then I vote and comment. And I know some may not like this, but I always give a 5. If not for the work, then for effort. I have a handful of people who usually vote or comment on my stuff, and I'm gratefull for those few! I wonder why some don't comment or vote and realize I'm just wasting good energy. I'm not here to please anyone but myself nor to be "popular". They should just do away with voting except for maybe themes. Some don't get any votes at all, nor a comment. My incentive to draw, is seeing others drawings. Its exciting and makes me crazy! You do beautiful work and know that! Also your other work on your web. is fabulous! You go girl!!

Everything you all said I already know, I wasn't looking for a solution or explanation just voicing my feelings. I am not drawing for the votes like some mentioned, I just see I'm not getting them. It is just a big change like over night to get use to. You are right I would miss not being able to vote for pictures I like; I had already thought of that but to struggle to get two votes on a good picture isn't working for me. I don't feel people are pushing me to do better drawings, I feel the the way the system is working that it makes me feel this way. Thanks everyone for your comments, it shows you care for each other on here.

You're not the only one. Many people have spent a great of time on their drawings and, like yourself, don't get the votes. I'm drawing for me. I've noticed many familiar names are not submitting drawings. As mentioned, some have their fan base or 10 computers! That's it, get 10 computers. There's your answer DMarcella! I said another day there's a vote recession or depression.

as you all know, newbie coming to give her 5 cents LOL.

1- I go by "if you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything" in regards to voting. I have yet to vote anything less than a 5. If I like it, I vote, if I wouldn't give it a 5 I don't vote. Only exception here would be the mentioned slur of trash the last few days.

2- I don't know you all and I don't want to step on any toes, but a little while ago a suspicion snuck up on me that someone's voting down to get their own picture further to the front. I know this sounds awful, but I went to check on my "go fish" picture that disappeared to page 4 yesterday, and to my surprise "i" was surrounded again by all the pictures that surrounded me on page 1. So it makes me wonder why almost all the pictures with the highest votes are all of a sudden together in oblivion. You all might be a better judge of this possibility/suspicion, you have more experience, but it sure is odd to me.

3- I've been looking at your pictures, I think I've been commenting a lot. Being that I AM still so new and finding SO many pictures I like, and them nowt aking longer to load, I'm simply unable to comment and vote on all of them because of time constraints, but I'm working on it. Keep drawing, I like your stuff!

Kugusch, your feeling are correct but a vote of 4 would be enough to vote someone down so why someone would vote a great picture a 1 is another story. Rachel is watching those pics that are voted down this way and that is taken into account when she posts top 5. The only thing is the pics are not on page 1 so they aren't seen as much so they may still get less votes than they would otherwise.

DM-- you know I love your work! I'm sorry too that you're feeling the loss of strokes, because you certainly deserve plenty of positive ones.

In my guise as A Broken Record, I'll just mention that a single low vote couldn't make popular pieces disappear so stunningly IF we had the ability to SEARCH in Showcase based on our choice of Most Recent, Most Votes, OR Highest Ratings.

14. 21 Mar 2009 20:19

Kugusch

DM, I know exactly what you mean, that's what I was talkinga bout also....all but a very few of the "top rated" ones from yesterday and the day before are today TOGETHER on page 4 because they ALL got rated down. Seems suspicious to me...

15. 21 Mar 2009 21:21

DMarcella

Osily, I'm glad you mentioned this again because I never got why you thought this was important, now I see the value of having Most Recent and so on. So you see it took you telling me to get it so it wasn't a broken record in this case.

I've seen other drawing website where you actually draw without pieces; one of them I noticed has a voting system so I wonder how it is working for other sites that use some kind of a voting system.
