All being well, from tomorrow the gallery will look like this:

http://www.thinkdraw.com/browse.php

Please let us know what you think, and also if you have any technical problems.

For those who just don't like things changing, the old gallery will still be around for a while.

Thank you!

I love TD ... not thrilled with the new gallery design, though. I liked just seeing recent pictures just roll in; it seems the most democratic and open. Also, I find the boxed color switching distracting. Of course, this is just one person's view. Thanks for the site.

I appreciate the "New users" gallery, and the general gallery is always available with a click. The "User you follow" gallery seems to me quite a repetition of the update... Hope the update will remain the same anyway?

that is AWESOME!!!!!!! I love how you have top rated for the whole month! Thinkdraw is awesome.

ThinkDraw

Thanks for your comments.

There are no plans to change the updates, although I understand there is now some repetition.

The 'top' pictures in the new gallery are not from the whole month, and are not ranked in the same way as the top 5. So there will still be some surprise at the end of the month, but at least the pictures with a lot of current activity will hang around the front page of the gallery a little longer.

Finally, you are probably right about the layout being distracting and we will try and make it clearer.

Thinkdraw is the best site I know of, however, i agree with five... more open and democratic the old way. Thanks for this site.

Thanks for all you do. But is there still some place to search for pics or artists, as there was before? Also I miss being able to see things in the random order that they were created.

I just discovered you can still go back to the old gallery! Thanks again.

Hiya, ThinkDraw.. the new Gallery is good, but I can't see me using it often.

I actually love being able to see all the pictures by everyone in the order that they're created, so that I can comment on anything that catches my attention.

Being able to home in on the latest 'good' pics is fine, but as I don't get to play on TD very often these days, I'd rather see the pics that new / non-'good' artists are doing.

Heart-felt thanks for your ongoing interest in improving (and even maintaining), the best site around

Seems unnecessary to me; complicating what was a purer more simple system. However, maneuvering through the gallery is not difficult, just different. I'm going to enjoy my time on this site regardless of how the gallery is set up. Many thanks!

Baldur

There is another problem not being addressed here.
Pictures are disappearing from the lineup in the new system.
Take a moment and compare what pictures show up in the new system with those in the old gallery
I just did 2 pictures quickly to test this. They came up separated by another work. Suddenly my earlier one vanished from the new gallery and has not reappeared either on a lower line of the page or on the following pages.
Go to the old gallery and there it is.

I had noticed this when trying to find a picture clorophilla had done for my birthday. First I thought she deleted it, but no, it is in her personal gallery and in the old gallery, but not in the new one.

Baldur

From what I am seeing, once a drawing vanishes from the line-up in the new gallery it remains gone. What an odd side effect.

I'm still trying to get used to the new gallery (although I am quite aware I'm an 'old-fashion' TD-er who adapts slowly). It seems sort of confusing at this point, although I can't really put my finger on it. Many thanks for your work TD , we all appreciate the effort you make to maintain and refresh the site with useful tools.

Thanks for your efforts TD. While I have not tested it, I was concerned about what Baldur has pointed out, that I would miss new pictures with the new format. I do see that pics are not correctly categorized. Artists that have been around for a while are classified as new, artists I follow are in the recent pictures. etc.

Also, I liked the ability to search the gallery in various ways.

Normal

Though confusing at first, the new method seems fine for those popping in for a quick look at what is most interesting of the recent offerings.
(Not sure yet about what Baldur has discovered.)
As long as the "Old Gallery" option remains, so I can see everything, it seems quite acceptable.

mmm..

I think I'd like it if you got rid of the 'Pictures by new users' and put the 'Recent top pictures' on the bottom line ? (lots of pics are by new users)

Is the 'recent top' based just on the last week ?

17. 26 Feb 2012 03:21

ThinkDraw

OK, thank you all again for your feedback and patience while we get this right.

I should probably have said this from the beginning, the new gallery only shows the most recent picture from each user. So when you click on a picture have a look at the other recent pics by that user.

The 'recent top' pictures are based on activity from the last week. So if an older picture has had a lot of ratings, comments, favorites in the last week then it will still show but mainly it will be pictures from the week.

We have added navigation to more pages of recent pictures which is much more similar to the old gallery.

My suggestion is not to break up the rows of recent pics ... put the "people you follow", "top for the week" and "new user" at the bottom and the multiple rows of recent pics together... I think that would accommodate both those who prefer to see the string of recent pics roll in as we did in the old gallery and those who want to see the pics with lots of activity without anyone having to hit extra clicks. The page would also be less disjointed and on quick look will also appear to change more regularly than it seems to under the current new version.

I'd like to make a suggestion as well: what if every user could have a setting in his profile allowing them to choose how they see the gallery? I believe this would make everybody happy.

I prefer the old gallery. The latest pictures were already up front..
