I've seen drawings on here (usually by the really experienced/good artists) that use a shape to completely fill the background, without the outline. When I try to do that, it looks like scales going across the canvas. Is there some sort of trick to that?

It's a matter of size. To get the smoothest run of a color, you kind of have to become aware of which pixels you want, and not let any of their neighboring pixels show.

It helps to zoom in. (Control and the + key enlarges ...I use about 4 or 5 clicks of this, usually; ctrl - reduces; ctrl 0 returns to neutral all in one step.)

Then you just place your chosen piece over and over again. Doing it well takes more time and patience than I usually have... ;>

One problem that occurs when we do this to extremes is tiny white spaces -- artifacts. It's a weakness in the Flash algorithm. We try to work around that limitation by not repeating the same shape too often without doing other parts here and there.
