When I lived in Vancouver we had an earthquake. It was so small that when it happened I thought "what are my neighbours moving over there?" Never been in another one. Were your cats at all bothered by it marius? I wonder if the bats felt it too.

That brought back a few, Dragon! Haven't heard that for a long time. I hope you and yours are getting well settled in before you're snowed in!

A great day for ropemakers around the world...
Blueskin is hanged in London (1724), Nat Turner is hanged in Jerusalem, VA (1831) and, Ned Kelly is hanged at the Melbourne Gaol (1880).

We are in the planning stages for our Thanksgiving dinner here at Boughbreak.
At last count dinner will be for Robert, myself and 3 guests. I believe the guest count will go up to 6.

Most of the meal is settled, the desserts are the challenge at the moment.
Baldur would never repeat a dessert that he has served within the last several holidays, thus most of the obvious choices are crossed off the list.
After dinner and a brief bit of relaxing conversation we shepherd the guests into the living room for my unbelievable dessert buffet.
There will be a cake, a pie, cookies and something puddinglike.
Any of those can be tweaked a little. For example sometimes the pudding is a trifle, the cake may be a cheesecake, the pie might be a double crusted fruit type, a chiffon type, the pumpkin/sweet potato/pecan etc type.
To complicate matters beyond hope I also prepare a zero sugar dessert as there is usually somebody here who shouldn't be having a calorie laden dessert on top of a calorie laden dinner.
the desserts currently up for consideration include:

Red Velvet Cake, Boston Cream Pie (which indeed is a cake, not a pie)

Nesselrode Pie, Grasshopper Pie, Kentucky Derby Torte

Gingersnaps, Mincemeat Streusel Bars

Black Forest trifle, Lemon Mousse

Sugar Free Lemon Cream Pie.

That's where we stand, Baldur has been flipping through his favourite recipes and searching online.
Obviously I cannot list everything that I have made in the past several years, those would include all of the holiday basics.

Dinner itself as I mentioned earlier is just about settled.

Some things are always part of the menu, for example the turkey, dressing, gravy, smashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, warm dinner rolls.

By request I've added green peas with tiny pearl onions, pickled beets and deviled eggs.
there is room for at least another vegetable and of course more appetizers.
I cannot add another hot meat item as my oven will be taxed to capacity as it is.
Julia Child had those magic double wall ovens. She would place the unbaked (and messy) torte du something in the top oven and immediately remove a picture perfect finished version from the bottom one.
Note to self: 'Get magic double wall ovens for Boughbreak.'

Here's a suggestion for a dessert for Baldur's Thanksgiving. It's a Layered Pumpkin Pie Toffee Cheesecake. It looks like a nice combination with the cheesecake on the bottom and the pumkin pie on top.

Hope that link works,my internet is quite spotty right now.

Baldur I should, of course, suggest Alligator Pie. But perhaps that's one of those holiday staples that you've made in the last few holidays.

Belatedly viewing md's "Murmuration of Starlings." Very Hitchcockian.
Fascinating record of avian behavior! Thanks for that link.
