The Eucharis is also called the Amazon lily. The flowers are about the same size and shape as daffodils
Mine is a young spcimen and only puts up one flower stalk, but as you can see from the photographs that lynnspotter provided the plants provide many more when they mature.
Mine came from Logee's in Danielson, Connecticut, a very dangerous greenhouse for plant lovers. They also have a marvelous catalogue..
Several of my favourite houseplants were purchased there. including my fishbone cactus, false sea onion, mistletoe fig and clivia miniata.

I have something called Star of Bethlehem out in the perennial beds.
It has grasslike foliage and smallish white starshaped flowers in the Spring.
Is that what you are refering to Qsilv? or is there a tropical (house)plant also by that name?

Hello everyone, it's Auntie B once more to give you an update on what my nephew Baldur is doing.

His uncle Jonah(from the other side of the family) is getting married next month.
Jonah, whom I've met on many occasions is in his 80s.... at the very least 80s if not 90s. His fiance' is of a similar vintage.
When Jonah's wife passed away a couple years ago he remained surprisingly active. There was always homemade food in the refrigerator, his laundry and housework was getting done. The family was surprised at his industriousness.
What had actually happened is that Albina, a local widow , was bringing over food, doing things around the house and making her move on the suddenly eligible Jonah.
Jonah has a couple of very possessive and needy sisters who threw a tantrum over his relationship, calling Albina, among other things I shan't repeat here, a gold-digger.
Last year when the couple first decided to wed they went to the eldest sister, Vitriolica, with a nice potted plant and to anounce their intent.
Vitriolica took the potted plant and threw it to the ground, shattering it and anouncing that the wedding would be over her dead body.
Well she is not dead, but the wedding plans continue.
Baldur first met Albina shortly before the death of his father.
Jonah and she dropped in at Baldur's parent's place en route to a day at the casino. To clarify this relationship allow me to explain that Jonah is related by marriage to Baldur's mother. He was married to her sister.
As my nephew happened to be there they spent a couple hours chatting.
Baldur's mother of course hated Albina immediately, but that is her way.
Anyone who has ever met her would have been surprised at any encounter that was less than venomous.
Albina and Baldur have since seen each other several times and it has become apparent that he is the only one not objecting to the courtship and marriage.
Families are so much fun.

This afternoon Baldur called his mother and told her that it would be a nice gesture if she hosted a bridal shower for Albina.
She not only had harsh words for that suggestion but also anounced that she was not attending the wedding.
As I get more information on this I will share it.
Auntie B of course would not miss this wedding for the world.

Ahh, this would, perhaps, be another opportunity for Auntie B to wear a lovely facinator as she did at the Royal wedding a few months ago. One can never have enough excuses to wear a good hat.

Why is it that some family members simply cannot accept that a new relationship might actually be a good thing? Jonah's sister referred to his bride to be as a gold-digger, could it perhaps be that they are the gold-diggers just waiting for him to pop off so they can swoop in on his fortunes (if, indeed, he even has fortunes)?

A while after my grandfather passed away my Grandma rekindled a relationship with a man she'd dated before meeting Grandpa. Most of the family was happy to see her having some fun and being able to have someone in her life again, but not my Great-Aunt. She was of the opinion that you only get one love in this life and when they die that's it for you, you have to be faithful to their memory until the day you die no matter what your spouse would have wanted for you. As a result my Great Aunt has found herself suddenly not invited to family get togethers. I'm sure she has no idea why other people find that her opinion doesn't actually make sense to everybody.

Here's hoping for a lovely wedding and a wonderful marriage for Jonah and Albina.

Thank you AuntyB for this news on Baldur's family saga. I have to say that Albina sounds like a lovely lady for Jonah at his time of life when one needs someone to take care of things and be there for you. I wish them well and we all look forward to hearing how the wedding went.
