Cats of any age seem like children at times. They'll look behind a mirror to find 'the other cat' ... and yet at other times, they seem far wiser than I'll ever be.

hehehe, love the name Speedboat for a cat!

Woke up this morning to find the TV in the sewing room on. I'm guessing that someone (1 guess as to who) stepped on the remote control and turned it on. I suppose he just had that early morning show he just couldn't miss.

One of the recipes for butterbeer I ran across this morning for Clorophilla. It's not allowed in my diet, but I always wondered what it might taste like. Think I would like some sort magical potion in mine. Maybe some real rum?

BUTTERBEER

Start to finish: 1 hour (10 minutes active)

Servings: 4

1 cup light or dark brown sugar

2 tablespoons water

6 tablespoon butter

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon cider vinegar

3/4 cup heavy cream, divided

1/2 teaspoon rum extract

Four 12-ounce bottles cream soda

In a small saucepan over medium, combine the brown sugar and water. Bring to a gentle boil and cook, stirring often, until the mixture reads 240 F on a candy thermometer.

Stir in the butter, salt, vinegar and 1/4 heavy cream. Set aside to cool to room temperature.

Once the mixture has cooled, stir in the rum extract.

In a medium bowl, combine 2 tablespoons of the brown sugar mixture and the remaining 1/2 cup of heavy cream. Use an electric mixer to beat until just thickened, but not completely whipped, about 2 to 3 minutes.

To serve, divide the brown sugar mixture between 4 tall glasses (about 1/4 cup for each glass). Add 1/4 cup of cream soda to each glass, then stir to combine. Fill each glass nearly to the top with additional cream soda, then spoon the whipped topping over each.

That sounds extremely rich and sinful.

Thought some on Channel Baldur might enjoy this video: Hidden beauty of pollination.

It begins with a 3:16 minute lecture which adds to the 4 minutes of spectacular nature video that follows but ... just go to 3:16 if you're not up for the talk. I especially enjoyed the bats at 5:58 - shows a mother with pup while she feeds on nectar. And the hummingbird doing complete 360 degree twists in mid air took my breath away.

That was spectacular marius (Baldur did skip the lecture).
I was amazed that bats can hover. It drank from the flower, suspended in place while its wings kept beating.
Amazing

Thank you so much, Marius. I did listen to the talk and it was well worth while. The film was amazing - I haven't seen bats and hummingbirds in such detailed close-up before, though I have seen the swarms of Monarch butterflies. I shall go to www.TED.com for more!

Thank you Marius. I don't know how he did but many of scenes almost looked like movie special effects! Love the hummingbird's twist the most too.

We entertained this past Satyrday at Boughbreak. 45 of our closest friends dropped in for a cookout.
The beginning was all about eggs.
Baldur made 48 deviled eggs, which vanished within an hour. Oddly a friend who raises chickens brought 3 dozen raw eggs, that's a lot of eggs.
Of course I could not run into the kitchen and make more deviled eggs at that moment. I fear if I did that they would be eaten just as fast.

There was also cheese, smoked sausage, burgers, hot dogs, grilled sausage, Ialian sausage and peppers, many salads, Sangria, countless cakes and pastries, Irish Soda bread and biscotti.
Of course everybody brought something, which is why there was so much meat.
I like to think the crescendo was when I brought a huge blueberry crisp (12 pints of blueberries), warm out of the oven and set it on the buffet table. There was French Vanilla Ice Cream to scoop on top.
It was a very nice day.

Sounds like an awesome party. I think crescendo would be a good way to describe that dessert, or perhaps Climax (not in a dirty way... or maybe it is depending on just how good that crisp was ;p ).

How do you make your Sangria? We have a tea blend called Sangria that we get from the most awesome tea store and I thought it would very nicely be used to make actual Sangria with some wine.

Here's a few tips for young people out there trying to get a job. When dropping off your resume dress professionally, also it helps to drop it off yourself, it doesn't look good when your mom does it for you. Make sure you get it spellchecked by a person who knows how to spell - diploma is not spelled d-e-p-l-o-m-a.

First i make lots of ice cubes using lemonade or limeade (Baldur prefers limeade).
Then I chill the wine. You really need a sturdy wine like a burgundy, merlot or shiraz. Actually anything will do in a pinch.
Fill a large glass pitcher to the very top with a mixture of the ice cubes and a medley of thinly sliced oranges, lemons and limes.
Pour the wine over everything.
Serve and replenish the ingredients as needed.
