Well new news on the home building front. We we excited yesterday to go out to our lot and see a very large excavator parked there. By now a hole should be dug and hopefully by the end of the day the concrete forms will be in place. Woohoo, soon there'll be basement walls!

On a cute note our new kitten Simon has settled in beautifully and is full of mischief. Just the other day while he was watching the toilet flush (which he is obsessed with, thank god he doesn't know how to flush it himself) he lost his footing and learned what it's like to get semi-flushed. Fortunately for him he's quick.

oooh Dragon! An uncle of mine had a half-breed Siamese called Captain who was especially attached to him, followed him like a dog, and got intrigued by that toilet thing that seemed so important to his human. Pretty soon my uncle caught the cat perched QUITE appropriately. It became the cat's normal way of going, and after a while (humans being slower than cats) my uncle twigged to the idea that instead of grumbling about having to keep a careful watch and flush the darned thing for the cat... maybe... just maaaayyybeeee.... so he tinkered a bit with the mechanism 'til the lever was super easy to push downward.... demonstrated a time or two... and... yep! Cap'n caught on immediately!

hehehe Qsilv. Never heard of a cat that taught itself to use the toilet before. Once we're in the new house (and have 2 bathrooms to work with) we're considering teaching our feline friends to use it. I've even scoped out a product online made for teaching them. I don't think I'd want to teach them to flush though, 2 out of 3 of them are already fascinated by the whole flush process and we don't want to end up with one of those YouTube, flush all day long kitties.

Great stories about cats and bathroom habits. I've heard of stories like Q shared. Our cats have shown ZERO interest in anything but potty box and iris beds.

Now ... here's a curiosty that my brain wants answered. Hope someone can shed a bit of light.

Searching the web I ran across a site talking about "sand schools." These are for horses and although I searched and searched (because who would NOT want to know everything there is to know about sand school for horses?) I didn't find much.

Sand schools are not on wikipedia (at least when I searched) and I only found one definition: "A sand school is an all weather surfaced area where horses and ponies can be exercised."

Anyone here know about sand schools? If so, I'm wanting to know what the big deal is? It seems that people train horses to jump on the sand school, but is that all? What makes sand better? Why not just use dirt? When did sand schools become a thing? I had horses when I was a teen and this was just for pleasure riding but never, never heard of sand schools. Okay ... I know there are some horse people out there ...
