Thanks for the birthday shout-out, Baldur, and thanks to all for the warm birthday wishes.

I must agree with Dragon, about more NHL (and NBA) and less NFL on the birthday list.
I used to be quite the hockey fan, and I lived and breathed for the Dallas Stars (mostly because I thought Mike Modano was dreamy). I remember when they won the Stanley Cup against Buffalo even though Brett Hull's foot was clearly in the crease. But I haven't much kept up with it since then.

I religiously followed the NBA playoffs this year since the OKC Thunder made it all the way to the western conference finals. The Thunder is Oklahoma's first professional sports team ever, and so we Okies are quite proud of their progress in this short time.

I find baseball to be less than exciting, and I haven't cared much for football since about 1985. Though my interest was briefly piqued in 2006...

This morning I watched in disbelief at the scenes of rioting, destruction, looting in downtown Vancouver! I'm disgusted and angry and sad. I agree with the person that was interviewed...these people are not hockey fans, just ignorant troublemakers who see an opportunity to get their jollys from destruction and mayhem

I was also disgusted watching the scenes of destruction in Vancouver last night and this morning. While we were watching the live picctures last night on the CBC all I kept thinking was, "Jeez people, go home!" I can't understand what makes a person think "Well, my team lost, guess it's time to go steal some electronics and set fire to someone's car"
Shame on you Vancouver rioters!
I did however read a story this morning about a few websites encouraging people to post their pictures of the rioters and to get those photos to the police so some of these people could be held accountable for their actions. Also there's a facebook page encouraging people to go to downtown Vancouver today to help with the clean up efforts that the business owners (the real victims here) will surely be doing over the next few days. Seems there's been quite a response. I know the majority of Vancouverites are good, honest folks and that it was a few rabble rousers that got things going last night, so hopefully they can do something to clean this stain from their tarnished image.

He spent an impromptu evening at my townhouse years ago when the paparazzi were hot on his trail. He was trying to think of where he could duck in to hide briefly when he remembered my place was rather nearby.
He had been here to a 'wine and cheese' several years earlier, with a young starlet on his arm. We had only briefly chatted.

Here he was on a rainy night, ducking into doorways having sent his chauffeur off to lure the photographers away.
Luckily I had just flown in from Cairo that very afternoon.
Imagine my surprise when the doorbell rang and it was him, with his collar turned up and fedora pulled low.
I made up the guest room, we sipped champagne and chatted until the early hours of the morning.
