Hehe, Dragon, LOVE that border collie link. So did my friend who has a border colllie. : )

marius got a few inquiries about her bats when she drew the "leaving the bat house" pic, so here's an update ...

Still not sure what species we have but tonight I got to see eight bats leave the bat house. It was thrilling!

After they'd gone for good (sometimes one or two come back and go inside the bat house again), I flashed a light into the bat house and counted five 'pups.' There might be more but I didn't want to shine the light very long because I don't know how bat pups will react and didn't want to scare them, have them fall out.

Maybe it's the lengthening summer daylight hours, but when the bats left tonight I could see them quite easily. One made ten foot circles in front of me, passing by three times. Hehe, think I was being investigated. : )

From what I know so far, some species of bats carry their babies with them when they feed. Since I counted eight bats and five babies, that could mean that three of the bats took babies out with them. That seems like HARD work to fly with a baby and for the life of me, could not picture it. Finally found a link that shows a photo of a flying fox, a kind of fruit bat.

As for mosquitoes, maybe it's too soon to tell, but for now, am not getting the nasty bites I got this time last summer. Have not put on bug repellent one time this summer and have only had three mosquito bites total ... so ... smiling.

Cheers to all of you from bat heaven. Think I'll be spending a lot of time there this summer. Very fun!

There are some very sweet folks on TD. Look what five drew! That's as fine a bat as I've ever seen. Think it's a pic of bat and bat soul combined!
Thanks five!!!

From Radio show to birthday boy??? Have you gotten a creative block or loss of desire??? Everything ok Baldur???

Baldur

Has Baldur said everything he has to say?

9089. 12 Jun 2011 08:42

Qsilv

nod... feels like Baldurnation (people do go into hibernation now and then, y'know) but at least Baldur's kind and touches base regularly so we don't worry toooo much... just let sleeping bears lie peaceful and trust in spring.

Baldur

Good morning, this is Radio Baldur's Official Birthday boy with today's listing.

Happy Birthday to Gabe Carimi, Ashley Olsen, Mary Kate Olsen, Nery Castillo, Sam Adams, Mikael Ljungberg, Ally Sheedy, Tim Allen, Whitley Strieber, Ban Ki-Moon, Malcolm McDowell, Bobby Freeman, Paul Lynde!!!!, Mary Wickes, Red Grange, Basil Rathbone, Gerald Gardner, William Butler Yeats, Miyamoto Musashi and Charles the Bald.

Dragon

Dragon is happy (and not a bit surprised) to see that Baldur did not feel the need to put exclamation points after the Olsen twins on his birthday list.

9093. 13 Jun 2011 13:05

Baldur

Baldur was sorely tempted not to include the Olsen twins whatsoever, but then relented in favor of the younger sectors of my audience (which might not actually exist anyway).

The Radio Baldur birthday list also is rather biased. Many people are not included. The decisions to ignore someone is not always rational, it is based entirely on my personaL whim.

On my list you will find, every NFL player, professional and Olympic wrestlers, Sumo, many figure skaters and famous players of odd sports.
You will not find baseball, basketball, hockey, soccer, golf or tennis players unless they are imfamous or crazy-good.

You will not find Paris Hilton, Lindsey Lohan or Amy Winehouse, but you will find historic socialites who actually had an impact on society.

In general you will not find mass murderers, terrorists, and assasins.
I have skipped over Adolph Hitler, Timothy McVeigh, Osama bin Laden but have on occasion included those who have reached folk hero stature, such as Bonnie and Clyde, Blackbeard, Baldur's sister Prunella.

Anyone Uruguayan gets listed. I have added a smattering of present and historic Princesses. Popes always make the cut.
I'm selective with royalty, generally the average American must have a basic knowledge of each before they are listed.
Because of this British and French royalty is most often represented. Portuguese, Spanish and Italians have to be notorious to get on the list.

Explorers and inventors are often added, politicians bore me and usually get the axe.
Porn actors and actresses are an easy choice, even though often I'd never heard of them.
Actors, actresses and comedians must pass the Baldur test.
Classic actors from the golden age of Hollywood are a shoe-in.
Bogart, Pickford, Crawford and Garbo are in. Tom Hanks sadly isn't. Comedians are a bit more difficult as I'm fussy in that department.
The Marx Brother, the Stooges, Lucille Ball, Jack Benny etc are thumbs up.
John Candy, Belushi, anyone modern and overly vulgar in their usage of language is out.

Baldur

Happy Birthday to inked gemini, Lorenzo Booker, John Stocco, Chris McAlister, Steffi Graf, Boy George!!!, Harry Turtledove, Donald Trump, Renaldo 'Obie' Benson, Marla Gibbs, Junior Walker, Cy Coleman, Che' Guevara, Pierre Salinger, Burl Ives and Harriet Beecher Stowe.

9095. 14 Jun 2011 09:35

Dragon

Of course Baldur never misses a birthday of a TD member who is quite active in our little community either.

9096. 14 Jun 2011 09:37

Dragon

It's interesting to hear your breakdown of who make the b-day list. If it were Dragon's list there would be more hockey players and less NFL players, but that's just my personal sports bias.

9097. 14 Jun 2011 11:49

Baldur

Dragon, please feel free to post a 'birthday addenda' should I miss someone that you feel needs recognition..
There are probably dozens of other criteria that I don't have spelled out here. As I said, it's based on whim.
The Kardashians never get listed nor do the Gosselins.
Really bad actors of B movies however most likely would be included.

I assume Dragon will be cheering on the vancouver canucks... Matthew is a Bruins fan... Very excited about our 1st ever game 7 tomorrow...

9099. 14 Jun 2011 15:27

Dragon

Dragon is indeed cheering on the Canucks. I would be so happy to see the cup come back to Canada, it's been far too long. Fingers crossed that Luongo is on form tomorrow.

If Baldur were ever to watch hockey, it would be only to get fashion inspiration from Don Cherry.
