Hey Dragon, congratulations on setting the date for the big day! Sounds divine. Not sure why Baldur thinks Mexico is not draconian. Hot and sun-fired, climate sounds Draconian to me but then, I've only been over the border from Texas, in the summer. It was pretty draconian that day! : )

marius, perhaps it's the lack of mideval (sp?) castles that makes Mexico non-draconian. I'm thoroughly looking forward to the hot sun and white beaches, this dragon is definitly a beach dragon!

Oh, and happy birthday to Agent 86!

My Mexican experience is completely limited to Cancun and Cozumel Island.
Not the same Mexico that television always featured.
I saw no desert, no scorched earth, no cacti that were not in ornate planters and nary a tumbleweed.
It was tropical and lush.

I would welcome a little lush and tropical right now. Just thought it was finally spring and then we go and get snow... again... all day long!

Dragon I woke up to a foot deep layer of heavy wet snow on my deck. I feel sorry for the robins. I'm going to try and get out to the feeders and make sure the are full. If we have a fast melt we'll be in trouble. I think our house is high enough to avoid flooding, how about you?

Those were wonderful Hazer! My co-worker and I just loved the one about the crow adopting the kitten, isn't nature amazing?

It's still snowing here and doesn't look likely to stop until tomorrow or later. Fortunately, though we're close to the river we're quite a bit above it so we don't typically get flooding at our place even when the river floods badly. This year the river opened up quite nicely last week, so I don't think we'll see flooding in Red Deer. I'll keep my fingers crossed for Hazer that no basement flooding occurs there.

I have a question for our gardeners here. At the clinic we have some white grating that runs about waist high on the front windows (this is to keep rocks from chipping the window) anyway, it's not very attractive and we're trying to think of ways to beautify it. I thought it would be fairly easy to put some window boxes down in front and grow sweet peas on them. I know they do well in this climate and they are good climbers and very pretty and fragrant. My question is do you have to pull them down every year? The boss is also concerned that they'll look bad from the back since it's a window they'll be growing in front of, he doesn't want it to look all ratty from the inside. I believe they may actually flower on the window side as well but I'm not sure if they'll have the room between the grate and the window.
Any thoughts?

I love sweet peas. I cannot say that they would bloom on the windowside as they do love the sun. And yes you would have to remove them every fall and then the grate will be bare again. Can you not paint it black? How much space is between grating and window? Clematis (a periennial) is another option, but it also dies back in the fall. If you could post a picture of it...
