Meant to tell you I discovered Monday that my library's teen reading area features armless sectional upholstered chairs with BALDUR TABLES of the one-dip rack type for papers, books, laptop or whatever. Once you have the label you SEE things.

Your soda bread sounds bang on, though you'd have to beat me over the head with the whisky bottle before I'd include caraway seeds! Also, I like currants rather than raisins, but no biggie. Only a month away!

Thanks for the recipes, Baldur. I am going to try both. The soda bread recipes I have are ALL authentic, no two alike, so always room for one more. The lemon-coconut combo sounds Heavenly...or promising...Coconut-macadamia nut ice cream is Heavenly.
My mother always said we had 9 months of winter and 3 months of poor sledding. I miss that 'poor sledding' weather- warm with low humidity!

I'd much rather cook something people thought was yummy than something people thought was authentic any day. It does make me wonder, all these people who told Chickie her soda bread was 'the most authentic they'd ever tasted' were they Irish people who'd grown up with soda bread? Had they ever had soda bread before? Were they, perhaps, just humouring her before they found a handy planter to stuff their dry, unwanted soda bread into? I wonder if their comments had been preceded by Chickie saying "Now isn't that the most authentic tasting Irish soda bread you've ever tasted?"

I only ask because I've never had Irish soda bread before, it's not what I would call common in my neck of the woods so it made me wonder if it's terribly common in the east or if she was just eliciting the response she wanted.

A friend emailed me this link last night... I had to share it with you as it is utterly delightful!

I laughed and cried at this little boy's passion and joy. I hope you enjoy it too!

What a joy to watch. He knows Beethoven's Fifth so well and he 'feels' the music.

Oh, thanks for that Mum23. Extraordinary musicality in such a young child - he really knows that movement inside out, and isn't following but anticipating every change - it does seem amazing that at that tender age he knows the whole movement - wonder if he conducts the whole symphony?

... and he can conduct! Has wonderful stick technique (and I speak as someone whose husband was a very good conductor with expressive stick technique). And I've seen quite a few conductors change batons from hand to hand during performances.

That was amazing, he was definitely anticipating the musical changes, not just reacting to them.

I guess this means we need a musical moment here on Radio Baldur.
Here is one of my new favourites, "Crazy" by Gnarls Barkley.
Most likely this cd will be a birthday gift to myself this year, the singer Cee Lo Green is rapidly esoncing hinself in my brain.

'Crazy' as recorderded by Gnarls Barkley (DJ Dangermouse and Cee Lo Green)
Song by Gian Piero Reverberim Gianfranco Reverberi, Brian Burton and Thomas Calloway

I remember when, I remember, I remember when I lost my mind
There was something so pleasant about that place.
Even your emotions had an echo
In so much space

And when you're out there
Without care,
Yeah, I was out of touch
But it wasn't because I didn't know enough
I just knew too much

Does that make me crazy?
Does that make me crazy?
Does that make me crazy?
probably
And I hope that you are having the time of your life
But think twice, that's my only advice

Come on now, who do you, who do you, who do you, who do you think you are,
Ha ha ha bless your soul
You really think you're in control

Well, I think you're crazy
I think you're crazy
I think you're crazy
Just like me

My heroes had the heart to lose their lives out on a limb
And all I remember is thinking, I want to be like them
Ever since I was little, ever since I was little it looked like fun
And it's no coincidence I've come
And I can die when I'm done

Maybe I'm crazy
Maybe you're crazy
Maybe we're crazy
Probably

Uh-uh

.... to make it even better, the video of the alternate version.
