zum117, that made me smile. Thanks. Also, got me thinking that with what I know about kids and face painting, I'd be *afraid* to be a mom who could do face painting ... the kids would never leave you alone! (giggle)

How do you ever get the kid to agree to wash it off afterwards?
My son hated washing up as it was, with a painted on puppy face he'd have been determined not to wash for as long as possible.

The Dreaded Stairs [HQ]
There is a set of stairs, with a moving escalator next to it .... both of which lead to the same spot on the floor of the upper level. At first no one took the stairs, almost 97% of the people took the escalator. Okay. I think that could be a normal expected result. Then a group of engineers got together, and decided they wanted to change the percentage around. Notice what these scientists did. Clever huh. And now they have reversed the percentages, as a whopping 66% more people take the stairs, than ride the escalator.

Re: Dragon's comment concerning non-hydrogenated margerine...Some months ago I read a disturbing article about that. They (the margerine floggers) dicovered that they could turn oil to a solid in another way - by using rancid oil. I cannot tell you how happy I am that I always hated margerine. A little bit of butter doesn't do any harm and contains health-giving substances.
I use olive oil most of the time.
Like popcorn? Try dressing it with minced garlic swimming in e.v.o.o. Salt if desired. TDF>

Garlic and Olive oil popcorn? Sounds like a little peice of heaven to me. I do love using olive oil. I'm not even sure where our canola oil got to. I even use it in one of those misters instead of cooking sprays (which I think have something really horrid in them but I can't remember what it is.)

This link goes to a commercial website called Design Toscano which always has many wonderful dragon-related objects.
I was quite taken by this chalice when I first saw it, but alas it is made of resin. It lost points for that.
I thought maybe the dracocentric (+6 points) would enjoy this.

Baldur got to go out to the cinema last night to see 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part I'
It was quite enjoyable, though predictably not exactly like the book.
I do need to reread them all and perhaps watch all the movies again.
I need to see if Harry ever had contact with the wand that was buried with Dumbledore. That little fact would make a big difference in my perception of the story.

Baldur forgot to add the link, LOL.

Loved the chalice, had to look at some of the other Dracocentric items. I don't think I've ever seen a site that had a section called Dragon Furniture before.

I think the item that gave me the biggest smile was this one:

Damn, it didn't work. It was a dragon toilet paper roll holder.

I've seen that, they send me a catalog in the mail.

Re: the Diet of Worms.

I always thought the city was spelt Wurms, thus should be the Diet of Wurms, not Worms. A propos of which and on a related subject, in German a dragon is a Wurm, hence an English tendency to smile when the fearsome dragon in Wagner's Ring Cycle (Siegfried) accompanied by growling tuba is greeted as a terrifying Wurm.

(apologies for any spelling mistakes, especially in German, a language I only know via opera libretti)

Dragon

I've often heard dragons referred to as Wyrms but almost never use the term myself.

8459. 25 Jan 2011 17:18

Normal

The town along the Rhein north of Mannheim, site of the Diet is, indeed, Worms. (Sounds like VORMZ.) But the dragon, also involved with the Rhein, is das Wurm.
Dragon's spelling seems likely Anglo-Saxon and definitely related to Wurm.

Now I'm wondering about the origin of the town name!

When I was in downtown Munich a few years back I spotted a marvelous store call Wormland. This probably translates into 'land of warmth' as it was a shop that specialized in Winter clothing... coats, hats, gloves and such.
Baldur decided then and there that he needed a Wormland shopping bag to present Prunella's souvenir in once back home.
I purchased something cheap for myself, probably a pair of gloves, then carefully flattened and folded the bag to bring home.
Prunella got cookies with a listing of ingredients printed in German, it was lovingly placed in the bag with the Wormland logo.
She certainly never ate them.
