I was wondering how the kitties of Boughbreak were doing. Were there not 4 kittens to start with or did you find homes for the others? How is Heidi adjusting to the influx? Hopefully she learns to enjoy them as much as you do.

That was rather interesting polenta, it quickly got out of hand too

Well Dragon, first Shakira the mother appeared at our back door demanding food.
Eventually we found 3 kittens and moved them into to the house.
They were rather feral babies and took a lot of work and gentle handling to get them accustomed to people.
We found a family for the smallest one, a calico female. They named her Daphne.
We were hoping to find another home for one of the other two babies but we've had no luck, so they are staying here.
As is the mother.
Heidi, our older blind cat is not amused by this turn of events.
She has decided to stay in our bedroom whenever in the house, and she guards this space ferociously.

Did you ever wonder what cats say to each other during a confrontation?

Baldur just made a hybrid Spaghetti dish for Robert's supper and had to have some for myself as well.
This recipe combines two distinct methods of serving pasta, Aglio e Olio and Carbonara.
Pasta Carbonara traditionally contains bacon, and my being a vegetarian precludes me from eating it, but this is sort of the best of both worlds.

Spaghetti Aglio Carbonara

Put on a large pot of salted water to boil
Have ready:
8 oz of spaghetti
2 oz of butter, olive oil or a combination of the two
too much peeled, finely chopped garlic (about 4 large cloves)
1 whole egg at room temperature
1/2 cup grated Romano or Parmesan cheese
2 tablespoons of chopped parsley
salt and freshly ground black pepper

Place the spaghetti into the pot of boiling water and cook, stirring occasionally.
About 3 minutes before the spaghetti is finished cooking ladle some of the boiling water over the whole egg in a small saucepan or bowl. You want to cover the egg with water and then place it to the side (not over a flame) while you prepare the rest of the dish. In essence you are 'coddling' the egg.
Heat the butter/oil in a large skillet, add the garlic and stir it over the flame for just a couple minutes. You want to cook the garlic without allowing it to brown.
Remove the skillet from the heat
Drain the spaghetti, reserving a small amount of the hot water.
Transfer the spaghetti to the skillet and quickly toss it with the butter/oil/garlic mixture.
While this is still steaming hot remove the egg from the pot of hot water and crack it into the pasta. Quickly sprinkle the grated cheese and the parsley over everything and using two wooden spoons toss the pasta, coating it with the egg and cheese.
You may add a tablespoon or two of hot water if you need to thin the mixture out a bit.
The egg will cook from the heat and form a creamy sauce.
Adjust the seasoning with salt and pepper.
Serve immediately with a green salad.
Makes 2 genereous servings.

You may also add sliced ripe olives and a few hot red pepper flakes to this dish.

Dragon

Well, it's now finally starting to feel really Christmassy around Chez Dragon. We finally got our tree up last night and the rest of the decorations too. Well, the one's we are going to put up anyway, we have an abundance of holiday stuff for a small apartment and a good deal of it never actually comes out of the boxes. We look forward to buying a house and getting to use some of the stuff that hasn't seen the light of day for several years.
One thing is very clear, we will be needing a bigger tree. The year we do finally get into a house we will have 2 trees. One, the small one we currently use, will have a distinct Star Wars/Star Trek theme. This is because the majority of our ornaments are already of this nature and would easily fill this tree by themselves. The larger tree we dream of having will be dedicated to all the forgotton ornaments of years past that have been supplanted by Princess Leia in her slave girl costume, Greedo, and R2D2 with a Jawa. Oh how I look forward to a 2 tree household.

marius, Baldur understands the joy the Kiwi must have felt about finally having the sensation of flight but other parts of that video confuse and/or disturb me.
What was the point of lugging the rope up the cliff? (and just how does a kiwi climb a huge cliff?)
Why was the rope tied to the tree? Why did he nail the tree roots to the cliff?
Is it meant to convey that the kiwi lugged ALL of those huge trees up the cliff face and nailed them in position?
and lastly and most frightening of all:
Did the kiwi have the hammer and nails stuffed up his 'arse'?
(it certainly appeared so to Baldur)

Sometimes, Baldur, gentle sir, one can do better in setting aside a few MORE points of realism than one already did in accepting that the kiwi could do ANY of the actions..... which is what I'm determinedly doing apropos the ending potentials. That, and remember to wax your zippers... nodnod.....

(Thanks, Marius!!!!!!!!!!)
