lynnspotter got the 8000!!!! HOORAY!!

Think Drawer is also good! I'll keep my drawings in my drawer and then draw my conclusions and if don't like it I'll draw a gun and draw everything to an end. LOL
By the way, Spanish speakers find the word DRAW kind of difficut because all of this...... ..
DRAWINGS dibujos
DRAWER cajón
DRAW CONCLUSIONS sacar conclusiones
DRAW A GUN desenvainar un arma
As you can see, we have lots of words for only one in the English DRAW.
English is difficult.
Imagine when Spanish speakers ask the translation of the word GET.... it's crazy!!!!!!!!

Congratulations on 8000 posts Baldur! Am hoping you get some solitude soon but in the meanwhile, thanks for keeping us posted.

Now Polenta, that is very interesting about the way DRAW (and variations of it) are said in your language. It makes much more sense than the English way. LOL.

Now ... how would you say:
DRAW a bath (as in fill the tub)
DRAW the curtains (as in close them)
DRAW a picture? : )

Okay, this is about an eight minute video but it was a fast eight minutes for me. This is about Skidboot the dog, his horse-shoeing owner ... and I guess, the joy of life. : )

Marius, draw a bath wouldn't exist but fill the tub would.
Draw the curtains would be CORRER (RUN!!!!!) LAS CORTINAS (THE CURTAINS.
Draw a picture would be DIBUJAR, which is only used when you take a pencil or a color pencil or marker etc. and you draw a pic. It's not even used when you paint it or color.
Yes, the word DRAW is hard!!!!!!!!!

Now Dragon, that WAS amazing. I felt afraid for those cats but they seemed to hold their own.

Polenta, "Run the curtains" made me smile. It made me remember a child's book, "Amelia Bedelia." Are you familiar with it?

Haha, in case you aren't, Amelia was a different kind of housekeeper. If you told her to "run the curtains" she'd probably take them outside and run with them. She had a whole list of housekeeping chores and she interpreted them literally. She was supposed to dust the furniture so she got dust and sprinkled it on the furniture. She was supposed to draw the curtains, so she drew a picture of them. She was supposed to dress the turkey, so she found some small clothes and put them on the turkey. My little brother laughed himself silly when I read that book to him.

Anyway, thanks for answering my questions about the word 'draw' as used in Spanish. Aren't languages fascinating! : )

How about draw... like a cowboy draws his gun???

Yes, Matthew I said it in my sentence above. I like this children's tale. It would be good to teach these fixed expressions.
Very old Anglo-Saxon words are the worst and more ambiguos. GET is a pain in the neck. OFF is another...... etc, etc, etc.
On the other hand, words of Latin origin are a piece of cake, like DESCEND. What problem does it have? There is only one meaning, isn't there?
LOL

I'm not lazy so I went to the Internet and found lots about this Amelia Bedelia. I can't believe how much I'm learning here. THANK YOU!!!

thank you lynn, I had to spend the night at my mother's place and just back.
Now polenta up here we can also draw funds from ours bank accounts and when figuring out how to handle a situation each person draws from his or her experience.
None of this is not quite the same as running out of the house without wearing a belt and having to keep pulling up one's drawers.

The swan lake performance IS beautiful and amazing... thanks indigo. Your link didn't work, but here's one that does...

The dust art is incredible too, as is the artist's attitude to it all being washed away!

It reminded of something I saw a while ago; a Ukrainian lady who tells the most moving and poignant stories with sand art. Here's a link to one of her performances.
