Baldur

It certainly was a quiet, pleasant birthday, we went out to the local Chinese buffet to dinner.

Baldur

I should add that Baldur did not get so much as a sliver of birthday cake yesterday, even though Diego apparently baked one for me.

The Chinese Buffet was excellent. It is not strictly Chinese, there is some Sushi, a Mongolian style grill as well as American and Italian menu items among their offerings.
Other than a couple spring rolls Baldur managed to not eat anything fried, which was in itself surprising.
I had lots of brocolli and pea pods in garlic ginger sauce, some lo mein, other oriental green leafy things. This was perhaps the healthiest I've eaten at a buffet.
Even for dessert I had honeydew melon, peach slices and mandarin orange sections.

Why is it that whenever I go to a buffet the honeydew melon is always ripe and excellent?
At the markets the melons are like albino cannonballs that NEVER ripen no matter how patient I am.
It's one of life's great mysteries

I don't know if the same is true everywhere but I have noticed in Canada that every Chinese buffet seems to also have perogies and sometimes other Ukrainian foods as well. I would love it if they put pork dumplings instead of perogies. They are my favorite Chinese food and also they actually are Chinese food and would make more sense to me.

We have a Chinese Buffet restaraunt in town here that boasts over 100 items in their buffet. I have a problem with this estimate as I've been to this buffet and at least 10 items on it are Jell-o. Another 10 items are salads. I don't think these count as seperate items. I don't go there anyway because their food isn't very nice and I've had much better elsewhere, I just have a problem with them saying "Over 100 items" I think 10 varieties of Jell-o only counts as one item.

When I went to one of the bear weekends in Fredericton we were all brought to a Chinese Buffet.
On the big sign out on the road it clearly said 'Chinese and Canadian Cuisine'. Baldur was interested because I had never eaten Canadian cuisine.
Of the few things there that weren't specifically Asian nothing appeared Canadian.
There was Lasagna, Pizza, Macaroni & Cheese, then the salads, Jellos etc.
Baldur is guessing that many items I have eaten at home my entire life must be Canadian.

Yes, I often see them say Chinese and Western Cuisine. Apperantly Perogies fall under the Western Cuisine.

Seems I missed your big day... Glad to see that growing older agrees with you... it beats the alternative...

I just can't hold in my excitement at these Olympics. This was Canada's best day yet. 4 medals (Including Gold and Silver in Womens 2 man Bobsled) and Team Canada absolutely trounced Team Russia to move on in Hockey. We're not used to getting so many medals.

Canada in like the United States attic... We know it is above us, but just not sure what might be up there... I would love to see USA vs Canada in gold medal game & would be happy with any winner in that match up...

I would like to see that match up too, but I would really only be happy with a win for Canada (if I have to be absolutely truthful.)

I once heard someone compare Canada to the US's little brother. You guys get the good stuff first and when you go to war the UN is like 'Ok, but only if you take Canada along' and US is like 'Ohhh, do we have to, they don't have any good stuff'
hehehe

6437. 24 Feb 2010 18:06

matthew

I knew that already... Hockey is y'alls biggest sport & you are on home ice... Anything less than gold would be a loss... It would be like Michael Phelps not winning any gold medals in swimming... That's why I said I would be happy for either team to win it... I would love to see Canada get there gold, but I will be cheering for USA to (shall I say it...) stick it to y'all again ...

This has already been the best ever performance for Canada in an Olympic games so I shouldn't be greedy but I must say I'm really looking forward to the Hockey and Curling. We've got a very good chance of medalling in both and it's really exciting to be Canadian right now. We're starting to understand how you guys feel (you're always so high in the medal count).

And I can assure you that I have a lot to do with that too... (not)
