Didn't Popeye sing that? lol

IamAnonymous

Only when he needed to sing for his supper, or in his case, his spinach.

I am expecting Baldur to come dashing in with a recipe for spinach, plucked from his own garden, any minute now.

Maybe those red stilettos are slowing him down.

Heavens,
Baldur was quite busy today mitering and nailing molding strips onto pine boards and look what happens!
The pride parade plows through.....
Now who will sweep up all this glitter?

As a matter of fact it wasn't a spinach day, it was Bok Choi from my garden that I stirfried with noodles and peanut sauce for my supper.

And no, Popeye sang 'I yam what I yam' which was admittingly similar

I Yam What I Yam
Lyrics from the soundtrack album. May vary from lyrics in film.

[spoken]
You don't have to be no fish to tell when you're flounderin'
What am I? Some kind of barnacles on the dinghy of life?
I ain't no doctors but I knows when I'm losin' me patiensk
What am I? Some kind of judge, or a lawyers?
Aw, maybe not; but I knows what laws suits me
So what am I? I ain't no physciscisk, but I knows what matters
What am I? I'm Popeye, the sailor

[sung]
And I yam what I yam what I yam and I yam what I yam and that's all that I yam 'cause I yam what I yam

And I gots a lot of muskle and I only gots one eye
And I never hurts nobodys and I'll never tell a lie
Tops to me bottoms and me bottoms to me top
And that's the way it is 'till the day that I drop
What am I?
I yam what I yam!

I yam what I yam what I yam what I yam what I yam

I can open up an ockean I can take a lot of sail
I can lose a lot of waters and I'll never have to bail
I can pushk up Madagascar grab a whale by the tail
What am I?
What am I?
I yam what I yam!

I'm Popeye, the sailor
I'm Popeye, the sailor
I'm Popeye, the sailor
I yam what I yam and that's all that I yam
I yam what I yam what I yam what I yam
I'm Popeye the sailor man!

Now what was infinitely more interesting was the song Shelley Duvall sang as Olive Oyl in the same movie.
Let me say quite plainly that I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE Shelly Duvall. Casting her as Olive Oyl is one of the unsung brilliant moments in cinema history. No one else could have brought Olive Oyl to life.
Ms. Duvall sings this song trying to convince her friends (and herself) of Bluto's positive attributes while getting ready for their wedding.

I present for your enjoyment:

'He's Large'
Lyrics from the soundtrack album.

He's tall
Good lookin'
And he's large
He's large
Large
Tall
Large
So large
And he's mine

He's not a mandolin
Oh no
He's an accordian
I'll have to squeeze him each night to keep him warm
Warm
Oh...

He's virile
And he's strong
Strong
He's strong
Strong
And he's large
Large
Large
Large

Doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo dah dah dah
Dah dah dah
Dah dah dah

He's got money and respect
That's true
He's better than the rest
That's true
He may not be the best
But he's large
And he's mine
Large
Large
Large
Large
Mine
Mine
Mine
Mine

Doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo dah
Dah dah dah
Dah dah dah

It may seem funny but it's not
Oh no
I'm thankful for what I've got
Me too
It may not be a lot
But he's large
And he's mine

And here is the musical flip side sung by the incredible Paul L. Smith in his role as Bluto. If I lOVED ......... Shelly Duvall my appreciation for Paul L. Smith is boundless

Here for your edification I present:

'I'm Mean'
Lyrics from the soundtrack album.

I'm mean I'm mean I'm mean
Ya know what I mean
He's mean he's mean
Ya know what I say
He's says he's mean
Ya know what I mean
He's mean he's mean

Mean
He's mean he's mean
Ya know what I mean
He's mean he's mean
I say what I mean
That's true that's true
I mean what I say
He do he do

I'm so mean I had a dream of beatin' myself up
I broke my nose I broke my hand I wrestled myself to the ground and then
Choked myself to death then broke the choke and woke up

That's how mean I'm mean I'm mean
Ya know what I mean
He's mean he's mean
I practically lost
The fight of his life
And it took me all night
All night all night
But I came out all right
All right all right
Because I'm so mean

I'm mean
He's mean he's mean
Ya know what I mean
He's mean he's mean
I mean that I'm mean
He's mean he's mean
I mean what I say
He's mean he's mean
Ya know what I mean
He's mean he's mean
I'm meaner than spit
That's it that's it
I'm meaner than [here he gets drowned out by crowd]
That's it that's it
I'm meaner than mean
He's mean he's mean

[spoken by someone]
He pauses for a moment
Looks around, picks up a tiger
And completely demolishes a whole building
With one puff

[back to the song]
I'm mean
He's mean he's mean
Ya know what I mean
He's mean he's mean
If you know what I mean
He says he's mean
If you know what I mean
He says he's mean

He's mean he's mean
[repeat]

Now Annie Ominous you get right back in here with your pushbroom and sweep up this mess.
Between the glitter and feathers liberated from the boas this place is a shambles.

Robert and I have been renovating our family room this week.

First all the furniture got removed, half will never return. The family room for years has become the graveyard of unwanted belongings. As we purchased new items for our home, the displaced stuff always migrated downstairs. It got to the point where it was far too crowded.

651. 16 Jun 2009 18:16

Baldur

Once the room was empty we started to deal with the basics.
The walls were sheathed in very retro 1970s style dark brown walnutesque paneling. Though in good condition the walls were far too dark and resulted in the room having a cavelike aura.
The windows were finished with louvered folding wood shutters which were also dark.
The floor was swathed wall to wall with a very deep red faintly 'pungent carpet, I dread to think where some of the stains on it might have originated. I prefer to think of them all as the results of 'pet' incidents but perhaps it's best not to study the matter too closely.

652. 16 Jun 2009 18:21

Baldur

First Baldur opened the windows wide, took off all my clothes and painted the ceiling.
I suspect this will be questioned so I should elaborate.
Baldur truly hates getting paint spattered on his clothing. Since we live in the woods painting 'au naturel' is an obvious solution.
The Baldur primed and painted the paneling. This was quite a project not only in that I was trying to cover a very dark color but also because there was a very pronounced grain to the wood and as I discovered once into the project, there were millions of tiny nail holes, scratches and dents.
I painted and puttied simultaneously

The paint is a light yellowish offwhite which is officially called 'bagel'
If Baldur ever saw a bagel this color I would proclaim it 'raw', but with a slight egg-wash. The ceiling incidentally is a shade called 'Princess Ivory'.
The finish of the wall paint is a semigloss that bounces light around the room and highlights the grainy surface of the wood wonderfully.

The next issue was the floor. Robert and I went to the local big-box home improvement center to look at laminate floors. I'm glad that robert agreed with me that the carpeting was not a good choice.
Baldur loves carpets, but prefers to have option to periodically send them out to be cleaned should they get beyond the point where home-cleaning is viable.
We picked out a laminate floor that closely resembles golden oak.

656. 16 Jun 2009 18:32

Baldur

Meanwhile.....
Before installing the new floor we had to cut up and dispose of the vile carpet, that fell to me.
It's gone.
We then swept, vacuumed, washed, rewashed, re-rewashed the floor.
I suggested we call an Excorcist but Robert deemed it unnecessary.

657. 16 Jun 2009 18:37

Baldur

Then I took to painting the shutters.
Trust me, it is far easier to replace shutters than to paint them, but now they are painted to match the walls in semi-gloss bagel.

At one point the window wall was buried behind a mass of compact disk storage devices and had a couple shelves mounted in the center to hold our stereo equipment. We had a couple freestanding storage shelves as well as stacks of different woodgrain bins fitted to hold the disks. It was rather a mess.
Since our music collection is rather extensive (3000+cds) and because we hoped to also move our dvd collection into this room we needed a better longterm solution.

658. 16 Jun 2009 18:41

Baldur

Baldur designed a floor to ceiling shelving system for the entire length of the window wall.
With the exception of the space taked up by the 2 windows this entire 16 foot wide by 8 foot tall wall is becoming an integrated shelf system. One long shelf will house the dvd collection, the rest of it will be shelves specifically built to hold cds, about half are up at this point.
This leaves some room for expansion but also has a couple neat options built in.

659. 16 Jun 2009 18:48

Baldur

One of the long shelves is level with and acts as an extension of the windowsills. This gives us room for houseplants.
We moved the stereo components off to the side to an otherwise useless alcove and were able to snake the speaker wires etc behind the new structure.
The shelves were made from pine boards, some of which were recycled from previous projects. I covered the front edge with half-round moldings and painted it all to match the walls. What a difference this makes.
As a neat extra touch I nailed narrow strips of wood along the backs of each shelf at exactly the right depth to stop a cd jewel case level with the shelf front. A good part of the music collection is already shelved down there and it looks quite good.

I cant really alphabeticize everything until after Robert puts down the floor, but that gives me time to paint a few more shelves.

Whew, what a week it's been.

For Robert's supper I took some cooked leftover chicken out of the freezer and made a small batch of creamed chicken, with homemade mashed potatoes and green peas. He would never eat the noodles with bok choi and peanut sauce.
