Dang, this forum thread is terribly close to 600 comments. Who would ever predicted this?
There are so many threads that come and go, but Channel Baldur lingers like a bad odor in a public restroom.

Formaldahyde, not sure about the spelling. Other things too! Just makes a bath smelly!

587. 11 Jun 2009 18:14

You put formaldehyde in a bath? That seems a little odd to me.

588. 11 Jun 2009 18:17

My mistake. Just googled, no formaldehyde. Other stuff though, google it.Back in the '60's and '70's we used formaldehyde to sterilize combs and brushes. Cancer causing they found. But can still buy it at salon suppliers, for bugs!!

Forgot, will not use mothballs in our bath, only use them outside, in our garage for little varments!! Also keeps bees away.

Mothballs were once very popular as a method of keeping moths out of areas where one stored one's woolens. They have an overpowering scent.
Other than keeping away moths they also imparted a very distinctive stench to any clothing stored with them.

I'm glad I don't have any moth's getting into my clothes.

Mothballs have held a strange little niche in popular culture for years because the name conjures up rude imagery when actually it's quite innocent.
Here is a popular song from the early 20th century, which plays up the naughty apects of several things.
Innuendo run rampant.

'Let's Do It' by Cole Porter

When the little bluebird
Who has never said a word
Starts to sing Spring
When the little bluebell
At the bottom of the dell
Starts to ring Ding dong Ding dong
When the little blue clerk
In the middle of his work
Starts a tune to the moon up above
It is nature that is all
Simply telling us to fall in love

And that's why birds do it, bees do it
Even educated fleas do it
Let's do it, let's fall in love

Cold Cape Cod clams, 'gainst their wish, do it
Even lazy jellyfish do it
Let's do it, let's fall in love

I've heard that lizards and frogs do it
Layin' on a rock
They say that roosters do it
With a doodle and cock

Some Argentines, without means do it
I hear even Boston beans do it
Let's do it, let's fall in love

When the little bluebird
Who has never said a word
starts to sing Spring spring spring
When the little bluebell
At the bottom of the dell
Starts to ring Ding ding ding
When the little blue clerk
In the middle of his work
Starts a tune

The most refined lady bugs do it
When a gentleman calls
Moths in your rugs they do it
What's the use of moth balls

The chimpanzees in the zoos do it,
Some courageous kangaroos do it
Let's do it, let's fall in love

I'm sure sometimes on the sly you do it
Maybe even you and I might do it
Let's do it, let's fall in love

There are more variations on the lyrics, some expressing the racism quite common at the time. Artists customized this song in many different ways picking and choosing lyrics

Here are more verses:

Birds do it, bees do it
Even educated fleas do it
Let's do it, let's fall in love

In Spain, the best upper sets do it

Lithuanians and Latts do it
Let's do it, let's fall in love

The Dutch in old Amsterdam do it
Not to mention the Fins
Folks in Siam do it - think of Siamese twins

Some Argentines, without means, do it
People say in Boston even beans do it
Let's do it, let's fall in love

Romantic sponges, they say, do it
Oysters down in oyster bay do it
Let's do it, let's fall in love

Cold Cape Cod clams, 'gainst their wish, do it
Even lazy jellyfish, do it
Let's do it, let's fall in love

Electric eels I might add do it
Though it shocks em I know
Why ask if shad do it - Waiter bring me
"shad roe"

In shallow shoals English soles do it
Goldfish in the privacy of bowls do it
Let's do it, let's fall in love

In old Japan, all the Japs do it
Up in Lapland little Laps do it
Let's do it, let's fall in love

The chimpanzees in the zoos do it
Some courageous kangaroos do it
Let's do it, let's
fall in love

I'm sure giraffes on the sly do it
Even eagles as they fly do it
Let's do it, let's fall
in love

Electric eels I might add do it
Though it shocks em I know
Why ask if shad do it - garcon de
"shad roe"

The world admits bears in pits do it
Even Pekingeses at the Ritz do it
Let's do it, let's
fall in love

The royal set sans regret did it
And they considered it fun
Marie Antoinette did it -
with or without Napoleon

Actually when I 'Googled' this I was quite surprised at some of the lyrics, some appeared that even old Baldur hadn't run across before.

Odd how these topics get going. It looks like 'mothballs' are going to push Radio Baldur to a new milestone.
