Baldur

Any adult who hears a child say something like that is responsible to make sure the child is safe.

Baldur

heavens, is it Thanksgiving already?
Baldur just took 16 homemade knotted dinner rolls out of the oven.
The turkey is now in the oven
The expansion leaves are in the table and all the extra chairs brought in.
The dessert buffet is all set up, save for the beverages which will be made at the last moment.
Now I need to make the cheese platter for the hor d'ouerves station.
Have a great Thanksgiving everyone!

Now, with Christmas approaching, here is a little Christmas cartoon to start the season off...

Thats so hilarious! LOL!!!

polenta

Robin, I ADORED the Christmas cartoon for TWO REASONS.

First, because it's funny and nice.

SECOND, THE MUSIC OF THE FIRST PICTURE IS A TANGO CALLED "LA CUMPARSITA". IT'S KNOWN AS THE ANTHEM OR HYMN OF ALL TANGOS AND IT WAS COMPOSED BY THE URUGUAYAN GERARDO MATOS RODRIGUEZ.

I felt quite moved when I first heard it here. Imagine how much money the composer Matos Rodriguez could have earned so far if after about 90 years it's still a classic.

Here is a more River Plate or Uruguayan version of La Cumparsita although the cartoon's one is not as foreign-sounding as other versions I've heard. Tango is one of our national rythms (We share it with Argentina) and we are very proud the most famous tango is Uruguayan.

Whenever I think of tango that's the song I think of. Neat to know it was written by an Uruguayan.

Thanks for that, polenta. 'Loved the violins ... and I, too, didn't know it was Uraguayan.

The Tango is always amazing to watch.
Thank you everyone for your contributions to the holiday edition of Radio Baldur

One of my guests asked for my biscotti recipe today.
Since I needed to type it up for him it is not trouble to also post it here.
So here is a special holiday recipe directly from Chez Baldur:

Biscotti di Baldur

preheat oven to 350 degrees
grease a cookie sheet and or use parchment or a nonstick baking sheet

In a large bowl combine
3 cups flour
1+1/2 cup granulated sugar
a dash of salt
2 teaspoons baking powder
3 eggs
3 Tablespoons soft butter
3 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 teaspoons flavored extract (orange, lemon, almond etc)
you may also add a couple teaspoons of grated lemon or orange zest

mix everything together by hand until a soft, smooth pliable dough forms.
at this point you can work in:
1 cup chopped walnuts, pecans or almonds if you wish

form into 2 flattened logs approximately 2 inches wide and place them on the baking sheet 2 inches apart (to allow for them to spread)

bake for approximately 20 minutes until just golden brown.
remove from the oven and allow them to cool for a couple moments.
using a wide spatula transfer them to a cutting board (you can cut them into several pieces beforehand if necessary)
with a sharp bread knife slice them into 3/4" wide pieces and return them to the baking sheet.
Bake them for an additional 10-15 minutes until crisp and dry

(for Thanksgiving Baldur used orange extract, grated orange zest and chopped walnuts)
