I've gotten 1s, too, Danila, and they do sting. I usually attribute a 1 to a mistake (someone thinks it is the highest vote), so the 2s, 3s. and 4s to me felt more like ways to just vote down a picture.

I truly hope you have not been offended or hurt - misunderstandings can be such a problem, and everything for me is cleared up now. You were not on the site when the mean spirited down voting began in earnest (before we had favorites and any number below a 5 could eliminate a picture from Top 5 contention); following that, in general, people started to vote 5 or not at all. Some started not voting at all, and just commenting, which I think is just fine.

I have another TD wish item - the ability to private message, so misunderstandings can be cleared up quickly and privately.

Again, I am sorry if you felt offended or put upon by all of this. I appreciate your comments and your drawings.

All of my pics this month have multiple one votes... All my birds just got 2 more 1 votes today... My "Landing" pic has 34 votes, 7 favorites & a 4.62 rating...

Somebody treatened by it & want their pic to make the top 5 in avatars over mine???

Somebody (or more than one person) have it in for me & just want to stick it to me good???

Or just simple voting error???

How will I ever survive??? All I have is my Health, a Loving wife, Wonderful children, Great friends, a Good job, No debt & an Awesome God... Without Top 5, I will surely die... (pardon the sarcasm)...

:(, Matthew

Sarcasm appreciated.

What pride could be found in Top 5 if someone cheats their way there?

Your birds are wonderful and it is a shame they would receive multiple ones and hurtful if it's not in error. I hope favorites carry at least some of them through.

I haven't gotten strings of 1s in a long time (there was a time much further back when that was happening to lot of us). I get an occasional 1.

I really do hope TD gets rid of the 1 to 5, and replaces it with just "like", and allows opt out of voting altogether, so there would be no way to down vote. Then, we could be done with this.

Hey every one, this is all depressing to me. and I think the "kiss" idea might work.
Matthew, if they were trying to cheat their way into top5, it wouldn't work, I think it's the favorites that desides who gets top5, not the "star" voting. (correct me if I'm wrong) I think this because I have a pic in top5 even tho there were other pic's higher rated than mine that didn't get top5.
I'm sorry your leaving Five, you are a wonderful artist.

KISS, buss, canoodle, greet, neck, osculate, peck, salute, smooch, smacker....... hey people..... I'm not that good in En glish. I used a Thesaurus.

clorophilla

I suggest a simplier way. Draw anything, enjoy in sharing so many wonderful artistic ways to celebrate life and imagination, nurture yourselves with each appreciation, each good voting, each fav, each nice comment, each top5 achievement, and let it go all the childish and evil bit that can occour, with loving and sorry thoughts for the poor people that don't find another way to support their ego... they have much less than we have, they enjoy much less than we do.

Amen to that clorophilla!

Oh and polenta, I had never heard the term osculate before. I never would have guessed it referred to a kiss. See, I learn something new every day.

To the Think Draw community,
First of all to Matthew in concerns about your comment :
Somebody treatened by it & want their pic to make the top 5 in avatars over mine???
I voted a FIVE (5) rating on your picture as I vote on every picture I vote on. I do not have multiple accounts which I can then down vote you or anyone. I maybe misunderstanding your wording .I am upset that you would think that, but do understand why you would come to that conclusion since I have the closest picture to yours in this silly competition (which I figured out today after I saw your post). I am deeply sorry to see that your pictures have been abused.
To all:
I have never commented on the problem issues on the Forums, as I don’t like to get into the politics. I do have to say there are a lot of weird things going on, I cannot speak for others but I have had some strange things in my updates like one of my picture being favored and the following 3 minutes a bunch of my pictures being down voted. Which I’m use to being down voted! Now in the last few weeks I have not been down voted at all. But also in this time I have had somebody (account) that I did not think anything at first but has favored a lot of pictures of mine. I can see now that they have favored other also. I was worried that some will think I am cheating. http://www.thinkdraw.com/profile.php?user=JoeBelle&tab=faves
I think we are all on edge a little with what’s going on. I really hope some changes are made. I want to see Five draw again in any theme she wants to, and some of the missing artist come back.
I don’t understand the motive of a few to upset a whole community; I find it really sad and disturbing. I could rattle on and name names but I really don’t care to. I am a mom that works full time, when I come to think draw I do to relax, enjoy all the art, to created art myself. I do not care about the top 5, and do not follow everyone scores to try to outdo someone. I simple want to draw and share with others, to enjoy others creations, try to learn more, try new things or ideas. At this time I wish there was no top five at all. It seems to bring the worst out in some.
I have stopped drawing a few time, I last a week every time I do, LOL. I have emailed Think Draw a few times about these problems…. Never get a response. I do believe that we should all be thankful to the creators here. We do not have to pay for the enjoyment we get. They should not have to Police things. We all should just have respect for each other and TD creator. These are truly gifts and why ruin it! Ok, I am done, sorry to rattle on….I just need to get what I was feeling of my chest.
P.S. I think Lizzi Idea is the best just a vote button and no rating 1-5, that will take care of the down voting issue.

Suzze... Sorry that you misread the meaning of my comment...

In short, my life is good regardless of what votes I get or the reason I get them... THAT was all I was getting at...

FYI: If I thought you (or someone else) were a cheater, I would not favor so many (or any) of your pics...

I think we probably have to stop publicly talking about this on the forum (for my roll in that, I apologize) and just talk to TD through the feedback button with our requests for a change to the voting or opt outs -- or we will just being increasing the negativity of the site and hurt feelings.

Hi all - Just dropped in to see how y'all are and see the work of a friend I recruited. Having busted 'puters and no home or office internet, I doubt |I'll be back drawing here for a while (and the main reason is that once I pick up a real pen or brush and feel its weight and balance alive in hand, computer art feels unsatisfactory).
Here's my 2cents on the voting issue....
What if folks just used the existing system as it was designed to be used? One star could be just an acknowledgement that you noticed the pic, and wanted to say hi, and it's worth a little more than zero stars.
Two is "hey, not too bad, kinda interesting but not too well-made" or "well-made but not very interesting."
Three is "pretty good! I quite like this!"
Four is "Hmmm, very fine, good job, I'm impressed, really nice"
--- and then five stars can be saved for what's really, really excellent. With this system of meaningful stars, you could make a pic a favorite while giving it just or three stars - meaning that you love it even if it's not a masterpiece. Five stars would NOT usually be favorited, since recognizing excellence is not same as saying in effect "I love you".
I've done plenty of pix that deserve 1,2,3, or 4 stars, and a handful that deserve an average final score of 4.1 to 4.8 - as well as few that truly deserve (and received) zero stars. In fact I'd be happier getting 3s and 4s than 5s for the pix |I don't think are that great, and if 1 or 2 stars could be handed out in a friendly way, wouldn't mind that either.

The problem here is INFLATION. We have to deliver a wheelbarrow of stars to buy a loaf of bread. The inflation results from just one mechanical quirk - that we lose'highest rated' status whenever anyone gives a pic a four or less. If we all agreed to limit our votes to sensible. meaningful numbers of stars, and if we ALL agreed to vote down any 5-star pix that should be 4.5 star pix, the system would work.
No I have not 'voted down' anyone. When a pic I like just a little has been languishing for months without a single star, and the artist hasn't got any stars anywhere, but is really quite lousy and careless, I have once or twice voted with 3 or 4 stars, figuring it's better than nothing at all, especially if a friendly comment is added.
But the main point is: THE EXISTING SYSTEM CAN WORK JUST FINE IF IT'S USED AS IT WAS OBVIOUSLY INTENDED TO BE USED - and if we make it clear that one star is BETTER than zero stars.
