Baldur

Baldur never knows what the next topic of conversation will be.

Why are ceilings generally white?
Yes it's a bright color, and reflects light well but if dark interiors are in need of adjusting wouldn't a white floor accomplish much more?
The angle of the sun beams hitting Earth would have the light heading inward at a downward angle for a great part of the day.
True, at sunrise and sunset for a brief moment light may enter in a slightly upward slant, but is anyone's ceiling really sunny?

This comes up because Baldur spent today painting ceilings white.
The ceilings were quite beige and the contrast was startling once part of it had been whitened.

I should tell everyone that the ceilings at Chez Baldur were stark white when I moved in. It caused Robert great consternation when I painted them dirtier. They are a color called 'sand'.
As such they optically disappear, one does not notice the ceilings in my home.

Another argument is that white ceilings make the rooms look larger.
Baldur was once accused of playing with physical space by a witch who was visiting my home.
He claimed that the exterior of Chez Baldur was much smaller than the interior. This was despite my ceilings not being bright white.
He walked back outside and then came in with the same verdict.
I offered to lend him a tape measure but he wasn't going for it.

I think white ceilings are boring. When I graduate, I will have saved up enough money, (maybe requiring some of my parents!) I will buy my own house, painting each room a different shade of pink. Everything will be pink!

Perhaps, Baldur, the reason why ceilings are white and floors aren't is exactly because the sun hits the floor for more of the day. The floors are brightened by the sunlight but the ceiling misses out on this and needs to be bright white to make up for its lack of sunshine. That being said I enjoy decor that is stylish without being homogenized. Enjoyed the asertion of your friend the witch that your house was bigger inside than out. Perhaps you live in a Tardis.

maddyjean, LOL at everything pink. That might be like living inside Jeannie's bottle!

maddyjean should draw a pic of her ideal pink room.

I do think this is settled once in for all. maddyjean is not a 10 year old girl.
She is a middle-aged gay man.

What's your take on sequins maddyjean?

Baldur would hate having white floors, Can you imagine the upkeep they would require?

Chez Baldur may be a malfunctioning Tardis, as it never goes anywhere.
It has never resembled a police call box either, but many Tardii never do.

Baldur never watched much of Dr Who, at the time that my friends were enthralled by it I was more fascinated by books.

I painted a bedroom ceiling the same color as the walls because I was
too lazy to do it white. The room was blue, a sort of Wedgewood Blue
very much like the blue around this forum page ( I don't know if we all have
the same color) Anyway at first it was ok but then it felt like the ceiling
was caving in on me, it felt like being in a box. When we had to sell the
house the agent recommended we paint the ceiling white and I did and
what a difference in the "feeling".

My stepfather is a painter. He recently did my bathroom over in two tones of Mediterranean blue, it is a sort of color glaze, one over the other. Very pretty and not at all closed in even with the room being like 6' X 5'. We decided to use the lighter color as the base and the darker color for the glaze and the trim.

I didn't want a white ceiling as I have real issues when whites don't match and we couldn't seem to find the right white and I planned to add plum to the mix and did't want it to be toooo busy. We did the ceiling in the lighter color as well and it looks terrific!

I think a ceiling looks best lighter than the walls in most regular sized rooms. It gives an open feeling to the room. But even in tiny rooms color can be used on ceilings if it is the right color in the right finish.

Baldur, I hate sequins. And, for the last time, I am not a man, neither gay, nor middle-aged. I am simply..... I won't tell.

I don't even care but could you tell us if we're allowed to talk about, you know "stuff" with you on here? Or would we be seen as contributing to your delinquency? I'd really hate to be arrested! I've maintained a clean record up to now, it'd be a shame to ruin it by typing out of turn on TD.

Puzzler, neither. But, matthew..... NO! Joking! Matthew is probably the worst thing I could be..... You guys will never know my problem.
