Baldur uses antique glass ball ornaments that he has collected over the years. I have been editing the colors as the decades advance.
First I gave away the blue and the silver ones, then the green.
This season I may just use the gold ones. Baldur is also rather unique in that I try to buy the old ones that the silvering is fading inside. Many of mine are rather ghostlike, looking like soap bubbles in the last second before they burst, they are mostly transparent.

I've also been buying old broken strands of mercury glass bead garlands and restringing them for the tree. These beads are in silver, gold, pink and red, in several sizes and restrung randomly.
Any colors I cannot use get restrung and given to friends.

I go minimalist at Christmas, too, although I REALLY love other people's lights! I am just too lazy to put them all up then take them all down again. I also think too many lights gives a very gawdy appearance in general, which I do NOT want at Chez Cradle. I particularly HATE those blow-up decorations that are about 6 feet tall and resemble Santa, or a big polar bear, or worse yet, a snow globe! I use only white lights on my tree, too, and, in fact have now bought a fake tree that came with prestrung lights! What a time-saver! I gave up on real trees after several years of constant vacuuming of needles, long after Christmas had ended. Of course, I'm not lucky enough to own a robot vacuum!

Robin is wishing she were a friend of Baldur who might be on the receiving end of restrung bead garland.

Vacuuming the needles doesn't bother me, and actually what happens here at Chez Baldur is seriously overdone, just not very electrical.
I swag evergreen garland everywhere, try to get the amaryllis to bloom on time, hang the wreaths, place the Santa collection somewhere noticeable, take out the hundreds of tiny toy animals to do a crecheless creche (basically lots of critters milling around tiny faux trees on cotton batting snow), do far too much baking, hang the mistletoe, polish tons of silver and jingle lots of bells.

I haven't added new bead garland in the past couple years, so the colors I don't need are long since repatriated.
I will send you one of the bead strands for the window if you'd like.

Baldur, I am hoping I have successfully sent you a message via MySpace, because if not, some stranger has my address and could stalk me. I would be happy to pay for the beads and the postage, so let me know how to go about doing that.

I was supposed to be working by now tonight, but luckily, we were overstaffed by one nurse and I got put on call for 4 hours. I will need to be to work at 11 now, though. I have had the creepin' crud all week thanks to my boy, but am feeling a wee bit better today. Still it's nice to not have to work 12 hours when I'm not feeling 100%.

I'll go check myspace.

My kitten is driving me nuts tonight. He walks around the house aimlessly meowing as loud as he can at absolutely NOTHING! It's psychotic, I swear. Now he is trying again and again to jump to the top of my computer armoire whilst I am typing here. Problem is, it is a little too high and he crashes to the floor over and over taking papers and things with him each time. I think he was successful at this jump once about a month ago, and he just can't get that out of his mind. So he tries and tries and tries, sacrificing his body with each failure. Someone get him some ativan, please.

Or at least get some for me, so I won't find him quite so irritating.

One of the cats here has decided that I need company while typing. This has been going on for some months now.
There is another chair in the room directly behind the desk chair. She likes to sit there and stair at my back.
However I can get her to lay down and nap if I place a single sheet of newspaper on the cushion. She likes the krinkling noise it makes so she'll walk around in circles on it. Soon she forgets why she is doing that and goes into the 'circle until you lay down curled up in a ball' mode.
It always works, sometimes she stays there until breakfast.

Well Mr Sandman has been by as Baldur is getting rather sleepy.
I will be signing off to head to bed to the imagined strains of 'Zing! Went the strings of my heart!'

Goodnight and until tomorrow:
