I am so stupid! STUPID, STUPID, STUPID! This is what I came up with: ageify. Is that a word?

Baldur is fairly certain that 'ageify' is not a word.

Baldur's new word list is definitely challenging and causing some hilarity. Words keep appearing that I'm fairly certain do not exist, but maybe should. My favorite thus far is HARPERY.

Mentioned the Toshiba challenge a while back. Results are in and some NORMAL 5th graders get 25 new laptops. The BORING 10-yr-olds get some too, but fewer. I suspect we outnumbered them - or maybe voted early and often - we are not TOO far from Chicago.

well.. I've just spent 55 minutes on the list - and come up with many good words, but I'm left with four (BEAN, BREA, DING, ERY) that I can do little with (I refuse to use 'eatery' !).

I shall await the answers with interest !

'All Baldur, All the Time'

Well belladonnis found a great list of words but created too many.
Included in this was a word that Baldur was convinced no one would catch/

sheftali did come up with a list of 25 valid words, and proved there can be more than one solution. Several of her words were not what I started with.
They are still all correct and acceptable.

Also Baldur is rather amused at the word fragments that marg has left unsolved.

.. alas, some of the really good words I discarded were : DESPITE, VALIANT, BARIUM, RESIST, MITES, CHILL, BRUSQUE, CALCIFY and HERON

I have to congratulate belladonnis and sheftali.. but still await the final list with growing interest !

When plotting out this puzzle you need to be devious and find words that
are atypical and break them apart in odd places.
Such as:

SIA MESE
ANTI QUE
RE SPITE

What makes them work is that you would expect SIA to be a word ending, QUE and SPITE to be beginnings.


No marg, not mocking, but you will find the answer list amusing.

I, too, am highly amused by Marg's "leftovers!" However mine are not those, so back to the drawing board.

Something happened to Baldur while trying to come up with the words for the next puzzle.
It occured to him that it might be interesting if all the word fragments used in 'Before & After' were actually shorter words in themselves.
Then a more devious though materialized; namely, what if the words had a distinct proper order?
So here comes a new genre of puzzle that Baldur has named 'Ringwords'
You will be given a series of words that can be combined in a certain manner to created linked words.
These linked words may be a longer word, a hyphenated word or just two words that are commonly used together.
Examples would be:

mush +room = mushroom
spin + off = spin-off
apple +pie = apple pie

Aye but here's the rub:
Every word in the finished list must relate to both the word before it and the word after it.
So:

DOG
HOUSE
WARMING
TREND
SETTER

When listed in that order would combine into:
Doghouse
House-warming
Warming trend
trendsetter

AND the last word in the list must link back to the first word in the list.
Heavens!

Ok you guys is it just me? I just read an article in the newspaper about cursive writing going the way of the dinasour. So I asked my 11 yr old about cursive writing in school. I remember around third grade she practiced some cursive writing, but as far as all her notes later that I have seen, she prints. So I wrote her a note in cursive just now and asked her to read it. She couldnt read it!!!!!!!!!! She said they went over cursive writing in third grade but they never really learned how to write it or read it!!!! Have things changed that much? And do you guys think thats a good change? The article said that because of all the technology with computers and texting penmanship is on the way out. Have you ever read a text, you dont even write real words in a text. I cant believe my daughter cant write or read in cursive!! I called my daughters friends mom and asked her if Cameron could write or read cursive and she said no! She said she asked the teacher about it last year and was told it was up to the parent to make sure the child can write and read in cursive!!

Sorry to go on and on about it but I just think its sad!!!! And scary!! Or is it just me?

It's not so much the linking of letters that bothers me ... it's more the way that text and email is destroying the written language. Writing style has changed continually throughout the ages, but only in the last ten years has it taken such an enormous nosedive in spelling and grammar.
