Well I am off to bed, no doubt there will be hell to pay tomorrow for sneaking in a puzzle and your having solved it before any other of the regulars even got a glance at it.

Have a good evening marg and congratulations again

it was a good one, wasn't it ?

Wow, Marg! You solved that in like half an hour! I don't think I could've competed with that anyway! Besides, I was out having some fun of my own. Dinner and drinks with the girls to celebrate a friend's birthday! Had the yummiest mojito and some delicious Thai food.

Baldur, I took the liberty of putting your apple crisp recipe in my recipe forum. Although, I'm not sure I'll ever be motivated to peel, core, and slice 40 apples! I am excited, though, at the prospect of trying Vietnamese cinnamon on my snickerdoodles. It could be just the edge I need to win a ribbon at the fair next year!

Tomorrow is 12yo football day at the cradle house, so I had to make a double batch of snickerdoodles for the post-game "tailgate" party. From August until October, we live and breathe preteen football. But this is the last year with this team, and the coaches, kids, and parents have been such a great bunch for these past 4 years that I kind of hate to see it end.

Next year it will be easier, though. Just junior high football. Practices will be right after school instead of 6pm, and games during the week instead of weekends. And some of the same kids will still be on the team.

Well, bedtime for Bonzo here. Gotta watch Monk and Psych...it's Friday! Goodnight.

Well done marg ... but fancy publishing the result while I'm still in the land of nod!

Baldur just found a brand new word to add to his vocabulary.
My dictionary lists: 'dingus', meaning any device or contraption.

marius

Baldur, dingus is a great word but I would not have thought it was in the dictionary!

Reminds me when my sister and I were teens. When we got in fights we'd make up silly names to call each other and thought ourselves quite clever. One night we got in a fight, in front of puritanical and prudy Mom. One us hollared at the other, "You're a big dildo!" Then ensued, the very mature, "No, YOU'RE are." And so forth.

Mom about lost her uppers and said we should not call each other such disgusting things. We quickly explained that the word was made up and we hoped it did sound disgusting because that was our point! Mom kind of blinked and said, "Well, that word is in dictionary and don't ever let me hear it again." We RAN to the dictionary. What a shock. After that we checked our made up words before we used them. And, we both laughed that we'd finally got our Mom to say something about the forbidden topic.

And, marg, congrats on quick solving of another Baldur word game.

belladonnis, we played spoons ALL the time and the fight for the spoon was what we loved most. Some parent must have devised that game to help kids let out their aggressions. It's all I remember about the game, some cards and diving for the spoon.

Also, I've heard many on Baldur Radio say how competitive they were when playing games. We were too but I never thought about it until I played Monopoly with a friend and her grand daughter. They were playing it like it was a stroll through the park. The contrast between their style and mine was immediately obvious, so, I backed off. That was actually a kind of relief. Later my friend said she had NEVER seen anyone play like I did. Well, I thought EVERYONE played for BLOOD! Who knew?

Robin, hope you have fun with the 12 year olds and football today!

And, the official announcement of summer's end has come to pass: yesterday is the first day I did not see hummingbirds at our feeders! Guess we'll take the feeders in, clean them and set them aside for next year. Sigh.

marg

sorry, all, for solving Baldur's great little game and publishing the results.. I know how I hate it when I see the solution before I've even had a chance to try !

so.. a request for Mr. Baldur..

Dunno where you got that list from, but the words were very cleverly designed to lead you into thinking an ending was a beginning.

Can you please publish (broadcast ?) another list, but with an end time - i.e. people can only publish their answers on or after that time, so everyone can have a go ?

2434. 19 Sep 2009 07:27

marius

marg - personally, I was happy you posted your answers! I could have NOT looked at them, but I enjoyed looking at them. And, my mind does not remember ONE answer, so I can still do Baldur's puzzle anytime I wish. : )

Don't feel too bad about it, marg. I quickly printed the list and went away and played on my own. However ... you could redeem yourself by creating a new list for us, yourself.

marius

Ahhh - I was wrong! One hummingbird at the feeder. Perhaps a migrant from further north?

Baldur

Here is another round of 'Before & After'.
You get 50 word fragments that can be used to create 25 words.
Each word is made of only two fragments.
Each fragment may be used only once and will either be the beginning or ending of a word. Your challenge is to come up with the 25 words.

Baldur will end the contest and post the answers here on Monday September 21, 2009.
There is a new thread in the forum called 'Baldur's Answer Channel' that you may use to post your answers earlier if you'd like.

Good Luck!

I should add that I will post the answers in the evening at about 6pm EST.
Othgerwise some of you would be pestering my poor receptionist here and the transmitting station at 12:01 AM.

The words used in these puzzles have been devised by Baldur himself.

Baldur is indeed the puzzle master! I am not sure that I will have time to partake in this one today, as I have some chores before my nap before I work.

12 yo football was very exciting today indeed! First, a very unfortunate player on the other team apparently went down hard and tweaked his neck, then complained of numbness in his left arm. The game was delayed by more than 30 minutes whil the ambulance was summoned. Now, what the boys tell me is that the kid actually didn't hurt his neck, he just started hyperventilating, passed out, and complained of tingling afterword. At any rate, they took him to my hospital, so I might be able to get an update tonight.

The other exciting thing that happened is that my son scored his first-ever touchdown reception!!!! Unfortunately, it was in the second half, when they were in the opposit endzone of where I was seated. I sort of overheard a couple of other parents talking about the pass to "Number 12", but didn't actually see it myself, since my vision sucks. I really didn't realize he got one til the game was over and he came up to me all excited about it. I faked my way through it pretty well! Phew! Anyway, he is high as a kite now. He went right from football to a junior high fundraiser car wash, so I have to go get him from that in a few minutes. I hope he realizes that even professional wide receivers have to mow their lawns, because that is next on his list!

Thanks for the entertainment, Baldur. I'll check in later if I have a chance!
