Just imagine that there could be an audience of people reading this who are not even ThinkDraw members.
Baldur is known to read a bit of different forums at the sites he peers into.
I must not be alone in this.

Hi everyone! I love the stories. I love to play scrabble as well and I play alot on another website pogo. They have alot of word games but scrabble is my fav!
We were card players in my family. Euchre, Spades, even a game called Spoons, which would always end with scratched hands and bruises!
My friends and I loved Trivial pursuit. My friend Stephy was almost imposible to beat. She herself has deemed herself the queen of useless information!
Well gotta go, Ive got a house full of little girls that want to play in makeup!!

This evening Baldur is baking a tiny little Apple Crisp for tomorrow's block party in the Chez Baldur Gardens. This event is usually hosted down the road but we volunteered our property this year.
We are providing hot dogs, hamburgers and the proper accesories of couse.
Baldur is making a bowl of Summer Pickles and the Hot Apple Crisp served with French Vanilla Ice Cream.

Baldur's Tiny Little Apple Crisp

Peel, core and slice
40 MacIntosh apples
Place them in a baking pan

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fareheit

Combine in a saucepan:
1 quart apple cider
2 cups dark brown sugar
3 tablespoons of corn starch
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon (Baldur uses VietNamese Cinnamon)
2 tablespoons butter
Whisk the above together and cook over low heat, stirring occasionally until the sauce becomes transparent and thick.

Into the thickened sauce stir in:
2 tablespoons of small tapioca granules
You do not want large pieces of tapioca starch, pulse it in the food processor if necessary.

Pour the sauce over the apples and stir to coat everything evenly.

Place the pan of apples into the oven and bake for 1 hour (the apples should be fork tender... if not bake them a little longer).

Meanwhile.....
In your food processor pulse:
1+1/2 cups of oatmeal
Process this into a fine powder.
Place the oatmeal in a large bowl with
1 +1/2 cup flour
1 cup granulated sugar
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
8 ounces of soft butter
Squish it all together with your hands until the butter is entirely incorporated. It should look like damp crumbs.

Over the crumbs drizzle:
4 ounces of cold water
Using both hands toss the crumbs and water around in the bowl lightly without squishing it together this time.
This will give you the characteristic lumpy texture that the topping needs.

Remove the thickened and bubbling apples from the oven and carefully distribute the cinnamon crumbs evenly over the top.
Return the pan to the oven and bake for an additional 30 minutes until the topping is lightly golden.

How many people will this "tiny little Apple Crisp" serve?

Well ... you posted your answer while I was typing my question. FORTY apples means there will be enough for those at TD. That was my only concern. : )

I am amused that the first ingredient in the 'Tiny Little' recipe is 40 apples!

Why Vietnamese Cinnamon? Sounds interesting.

2411. 18 Sep 2009 17:21

Baldur

It serves one person.
If that person is extremely famished and compulsive about apple desserts.

I first bought VietNamese Cinnamon a couple years ago and I love it.
The regular store stuff tastes tired by comparison.

Let me see if Baldur can locate the sales pitch for this.

Ok, this is from Penzey's Spices:

Extra Fancy Vietnamese Cassia Cinnamon
The highest quality, strongest cinnamon available in America today. Extremely sweet and flavorful. Use 2 /3 what recipe calls for. Since the trade embargo with Vietnam has been lifted, this wonderful cassia has become available. Very high 6% grade. Ground, from Vietnam.

I'll look for some cinnamon because I use it on my oatmeal and
also for cooking and baking.

It's puzzle time!

Yes without any warning Baldur is springing another puzzle on his favorite radio audience.
I'm calling this one
'Before & After'

You will get 50 word fragments that can be used to create 25 words.
Each word is made of only two fragments.
Each fragment may be used only once and will either be the beginning or ending of a word. Your challenge is to come up with the 25 words.

Good Luck!

Please ignore any blank spaces that somehow magically appeared when I copy the word list. With just a quick glance I can see 2 such gaps, they should not be there.

Congratulations marg.

Your list matches mine exactly.
I was wondering if there could be more than one workable list of words.
Some of the fragments can be combined differently, Baldur was banking that on slowing the players down.
