okay, time is up, there was not as many submissions as i had hoped, but that can't be helped.

I am however happy with the pictures that did make it into the challenge, these are exactly what i was looking for.

to make this short and sweet i pass the baton on to GingerNinja for her inspiring http://www.thinkdraw.com/picture.php?pictureId=115288

Thanks for this idea, Arw. A good choice for batten holder ... and congratulations to Ginger.

Apart from my own connection problems, I think there is a definite lull on TD ... perhaps this thread will run on when things pick up again ... I hope so.

Yes Baton, not Batten-

the dictionary defines this as- in Sports- The hollow cylinder that is carried by each member of a relay team in a running race and passed to the next team member.

Login, myself and you(polenta) were a team in a relay race- login would start out running-carrying the baton, when she finished the first 1/3 of the race she would pass it on to me, and i would run with it until i reached you, i would stop and you would take the baton to the finish line.- as far as i am aware the purpose of the baton is to insure fairness.

Oops ... thanks for correcting my spelling error. Sorry for the confusion, polenta ... but hey ... you learn something new every day.

Honest Login. My idea wasn't to correct anything and the least person would be you ( a British native!!!) Going to Google and typing batten holder was an automatic movement.... but the photos I got were surprising and I suspected there was something extra-linguistic, more sociocultural that I didn't understand. It happens all the time because language.... is not ONLY LANGUAGE!!!.

Arw, thanks for taking up your time to explain. I do understand perfectly now.
It reminds me of the torch holder in the Olympic Games. Thanks
