Normal

Hanging, you are meeting some of the most complex & fascinating minds on TD, due to your wicked inspiration. No ideas here yet, but it's great to be a spectator!

Normal, you've got the point! And thank you for your input. Hope you'll keep enjoying all those talented and gifted minds! And maybe, you can play with your mind here too!

More literal than philosophical, perhaps...

Five, thank you for joining us. This makes me think what if we didn't 'conceive' or were not allowed to 'conceive' in our lives, and that's exactly what I've meant in this challenge, proposals!

Hanging, I love the idea of this challenge... you've had such wonderful drawings for it so far!

I can't draw at the moment, but am going to be naughty and slip in a verse from Kahlil Gibran's 'The Prophet', which, to me, beautifully illustrates this challenge... I hope you enjoy them!

On Joy and Sorrow
Kahlil Gibran

Your joy is your sorrow unmasked.
And the selfsame well from which your laughter rises was oftentimes filled with your tears.
And how else can it be?
The deeper that sorrow carves into your being, the more joy you can contain.
Is not the cup that holds your wine the very cup that was burned in the potter's oven?
And is not the lute that soothes your spirit, the very wood that was hollowed with knives?
When you are joyous, look deep into your heart and you shall find it is only that which has given you sorrow that is giving you joy.
When you are sorrowful look again in your heart, and you shall see that in truth you are weeping for that which has been your delight.

Some of you say, "Joy is greater than sorrow," and others say, "Nay, sorrow is the greater."
But I say unto you, they are inseparable.
Together they come, and when one sits, alone with you at your board, remember that the other is asleep upon your bed.

Verily you are suspended like scales between your sorrow and your joy.
Only when you are empty are you at standstill and balanced.
When the treasure-keeper lifts you to weigh his gold and his silver, needs must your joy or your sorrow rise or fall.

...with a quiet smile at mum...... haven't seen anyone who knew Gibran's stuff in a while.

I'll leave you a note on the usual drawing, but right here I'd just like to say that your sensitivity has been a gift around here. Thanks for the part I've shared.

Here it goes...

Thank you all for your patience with my dull response and dim English and for accompanying with my (what Normal said) wicked inspiration!
And again, as Normal mentioned, we've met some of the most complex & fascinating minds on TD here.

I wanted to extend the time limit so bad because of the complex theme but believe it would be better for us to get new challenges consistently.

Here is sort of (hope I can do it okay...) the synthesis of this challenge.

(In order of appearance)

Arw65 created 4 definitions using some old and some new pics. She gazed our daily lives and pointed out the truth, which we often forget.

Qsilv displayed many old pics (one with 16 pics and one with 4 pics) and proved its intricateness. Also created a new one with the magnitude of life.

Marg pulled 3 old pics from Qsilv's gallery. This was hilarious!!!

Five created 2 new pics. The first one was very clear. But the second one... Five, please give me a supplement if you can. I'd like to know your creative and unique thought in the pic!

Clorophilla submitted three new beautiful pics for one definition here but also they go with the non-stop challenge "The Moving Lines Moves On". They can be in another one "Favorite Color" but I didn't find them in that.

And we don't want to forget that some productive comments/inputs from both pic-submitters and non-submitters.
I'd like to give the special recognition to Mum23 for the quote of the verse "On Joy and Sorrow" by Kahlil Gibran. What a perfect quote it is for this challenge!

Hanging, I got a wink and question marks in the comments on that one, and your now your puzzlement. Too much of an inside my head thing, I guess. Here's an explanation.... it's rather literal with a bit of metaphor tossed in ...

Life is made up of encounters with others, with ourselves, with our thoughts, etc. Each little scene within the picture is an encounter along these lines. There's also "life is a stage, we are only players" (paraphrased) -- hence the cornering off at the bottom.

I should add I started out thinking about the chicken and the egg, which came first, etc., hence the placing of the first chick of course, it did not stay there long.

37. 7 Aug 2010 11:51

hanging

I'd also like to mention about how many people and how much this TD has involved with our lives.

My very first pic was submitted on May 23, 2010 (2 1/2 months ago) and now it's on the page 329.
It means that there are 8,125 pics created in 10 weeks. (I tried to go to the very first page of TD but gave up!)
It can simply be calculated 40,000 pics a year.
16,172 TD users as of now (Aug 7, 2010 12:30PM PT).
(Many of them are one-time users but still, it's a big number to me.)

So many talented people get together and share the ideas, thoughts, emotions, etc. here at TD, and this is big part of our lives for many of us.
What I wanted to do at this challenge (if possible and never) was to display all the pics together from the very very beginning of this site and make the gallery as our parts of lives.

(lol) Well, thank you for giving me the opportunity to suggest the challenge and it's been my pleasure to communicate with you all.

Okay, here is the button, and I never be able to make the judgement on others so this is not from the judgement, of course,
...and the button goes to Arw65.
Congratulations Arw65!

It takes sooooo long for me to write English and while composing the last message, Five, thank you so much for the explanation. I got the title to get along with this challenge but didn't get the pic. Now I understand clearly. Ahhh, that pic makes me smile now!

Uuuuhhh, see, my English issue, it's not BUTTON, it's the BATON for you Arw65!!!
