I beg your pardon, but he was scourged beore they wounded his side.

from wikipedia:
A scourge (from Italian scoriada, from Latin excoriare = "to flay" and corium = "skin") is a whip or lash, especially a multi-thong type used to inflict severe corporal punishment or self-mortification on the back.

it was a very gory scene...Matthew did an excellent job and im sure that it may bother some people and it bothered me, for a long time i had little understanding of WHY it had to be. This single event is the absolute most important moment in history to the Christian faith.

also he was struck with a reed+ they put a crown of thorns on his head.
So after all that im sure he had many wounds...

so all of that was to say that i think Matthew's depiction is accurate.

You're right pollyesther.

I think the deletion from the main gallery came after multiple entries of the drawing were displayed and an argument ensued in the community forum.

You are right! Sorry!

Wasn't it that thirty lashes would kill a man, but Jesus only got 39? That's what my ministor told me...

The single spear to the side happened on the cross... The horrific beating Jesus took was prior to being hung up on it...

Watch "Passion of the Christ" for an idea of what that beating was like...

Not unlike beating this subject to death. Let it rest, for goodness sake!

I agree, Robin. Better not to stir it all up again.

Heaven forbid we talk about Jesus in a forum thread about a Jesus pic...

My point isn't about talking about Jesus. It's about talking about the Jesus pic being censored over and over again. It was censored months and months and months ago and this is about the twentieth time we've all had to hear about it. At some point it seems like rehashing it yet again is just a way to call more attention to it. If you look at it that way, it's been seen now by way more people than it would have been in the gallery, so let it go now. Sorry if this offends.

Ah, no offense taken... While it is censored I will continue to talk about it... I will gladly let it drop... When it is no longer censored...

Matthew, watch out, I own sarcasm and didn't give you permission to use it.

33. 4 Dec 2009 14:14

matthew

Oh I do love sarcasm... but then I like almost all humor tools... But I wasn't being sarcastic...

34. 4 Dec 2009 14:17

Shanley

Matthew, did you send a feedback to TD mentioning all the votes here for lifting the censorship?

35. 4 Dec 2009 14:23

matthew

Not as of yet...

37. 4 Dec 2009 15:12

matthew

...lol... Yes... Very much so... I had forgotten that one & thought you referred to the one that followed...

...So yes, put my "sarcasm taxes" on my tab...

Dragon

If there's a sarcasm tax I'm in serious trouble.

39. 4 Dec 2009 16:06

matthew

Was that sarcasm?

One sarcasm equals 1 million dollars.
