After reading all about your cucumber recipes here is one I make
often.
DANISH CUCUMBER SALAD
1 English cucumber (unpeeled)
1 tsp salt
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup vinegar
Salt and pepper
chopped fresh dill leaves

Thinly slice cucumbers and place in bowl or sieve. Sprinkle with
salt and let stand for 1 hour. Pour off liquid and pat dry; transfer
to bowl. In small saucepan or microwave dish, combine sugar and vinegar
stir over low heat or microwave until sugar in dissolved; let cool.
Pour over cucumbers; let stand for 30 to 60 minutes. Drain cucumbers;
season with salt and pepper to taste. Garnish generously with dill.
makes 4 servings. Anne Lindsay's Smart Cooking

Catching up...

Login: love the story of your brothers. How wonderful they visited and all had a good time! Happy for you!

Luna: Don't get the reference, comment #1584, "I'm being a Maserati today." But now that I've SEEN your Maserati, maybe I do get it? : )

Solosater: Re your comment "...assertiveness doesn't always do the trick" (with family like mine). How well I know that! The amazing thing is the valor with which many rise above the chaos. You seem to have done that and at such a young age! (Don't think I learned to say "no" until my early 40's so you've got a nice head start.) : )

Robin: Know what you mean about revealing mental illness in the family. Old taboos and myths about it don't help with understanding. My parents have borderline versions of MI, Dad bi-polar and Mom schizophrenia. But, what lessons they teach. I'm impressed with the lessons you've leanred and if your brother is anything like mine, am sure he appreciates your boundaries and honesty. Think main lesson I learned is: if someone treats me badly it has nothing to do with me & everything to do with them. : )

Dragon and Login: Love the stories of what lived under your bed when you were children. Could just see dragon leaping away from the bed cause that's how I did it too.

Baldur: Story of the nymph from lamp dating across the room - I know people who would say it wasn't your imagination. Have been told this is always how you see them (whoever them are) ... from the corner of the eye. Would not want that lamp back if it were me. tee hee hee.

Love your Zsa Zsa the cat story. Also summer pickles. Now have something new to try. And Indigo's and all the other cucumber/pickle ideas - yum.

In closing: Was wondering if Chez Baldur were to alert us all when the next story-telling party of "8 hours with sis" will be ... would we all get our fair share of Qsilv's chocolates? tee hee hee

Login, you wrote: "I'm a Channel Baldur fan because you all make me feel normal ... (slopes away with her head tucked underneath her arm)." For some reason I cannot get that idea of you sloping away out of my mind and it is cracking me up! Thank you!

indigo, I'm going to have to try that Danish Cucumber recipe. On Canada Day we went down to the festivities at the park here in town and they had all kinds of multicultural food stands, we chose the Danish stand (mostly because the line was shorter) and had hot dogs made with European sausage, the topping they put on was some sort of sweet cucumber mix and I've been longing for it ever since. I have a feeling your recipe comes very close. I just love this thread!

I do have a recipe request to throw out there. I was gifted with a large amount of fresh garden carrots and potatoes (far more than I would have normally picked up for myself). They are so wonderful and flavourful I don't want to let them go to waste and I don't want to do just the same old baked potatoes and what have you. Anyone got any good potato and carrot recipes out there?

Is it possible, oh illustrious one, that the word "CTZTOZTLMV" in the third line should NOT have a "Z" in it? Sorry to mention it - but driving me nuts!

Anyway, once I got a certain word ... what delight!

And - I get 12 points for not giving a single hint! (goes off looking for tylenlo, tyelnol, ty.....).

marius you indeed found a mistake, congratulations.
Oddly Baldur did not make the error in the act of letter substitution, but I mispelt the word in question FIRST, and thenm carried the error over into the cryptogram. A double whammy.

I will repost the entire puzzle with the correction
Thank you for being so alert, and congratulations for solving a very difficult cryptogram

DOES THAT WORK?

Baldur

Here is a corrected version of the previous cryptogram. marius discovered a spelling error in the version I had posted today.
Trust me however, this corrected version is no easier. This won't illuminate any light bulbs over your heads.

solosater, if you go to google and type in the first line the source will appear.
If you solved this cryptogram you are now a master cryptologist

I know this is not new in any way but I've never actually read it just heard it and didn't really pay attention to the words so much as the rhythm, you know?
