I loved the Bear Commercial.
FT reminded me of the fact that we now have board game cafes and bars to allow patrons to interact with other human beings in real space and real time. Perhaps they will discover the art of conversation? It's meant to promote laughing out loud instead of writing the abbreviation of it. ^(^ Maybe we'll have pubs with actual dart boards. What goes around comes around.

Baldur did some baking today. I am doing my best to find a whole wheat pie dough that utilizes vegetable oil in place of butter or shortening.
The results have been edible though would more properly be called homely than delicious.

The item I needed pie dough for in an English recipe from the World War II era called Homity pie.
Baldur is getting to love Homity Pie.

There are multiple variations possible with this recipe but basically it involves filling a pie shell with chunks of boiled potato and sauteed leeks. You may also add onions, garlic and almost any other vegetable, precooked if necessary.
On top of this you pile shredded sharp Cheddar, and you can also whisk an egg with a little milk or cream and pour that over everything.
The egg and milk part is definitely optional.
Today Baldur added some creamed spinach and used sauteed onions in place of the leeks.
Ultimately the pie gets baked in the oven until everything glues together.

The filling is so good it almost makes me overlook the heavy whole wheat shell.

An interesting recipe, Baldur. I'd never heard of Homity pie but, as meat, butter, white flour etc., were in short supply in UK during WWII, the pie may have been the result of a need to bulk up vegetables or to present them in a different way for a change. Necessity is the mother (or Father) of invention.
