Baldur

My son, his wife and baby Kanye arrived at midnight, Thursday, before the wedding. Being the dutiful Grandpapi I picked them up at the aeroport.

Poor Kanye. RI was very cold and full of strange people. He did not remember me, nor had he ever met Robert. This would take some adjustments.
He was very overtired from his aeroplane adventure and went to sleep without too much difficulty once here at Boughbreak.
Jackie, my daughter in law also went right to bed, she was quite exhausted from flying cross country with a baby who insisted he wanted her to hold him for the entire duration.
Nile and I chatted a bit before he went to the guest room and joined them.

There was some scheduling problems arising with trhe exwife. She wanted as much time with her visiting family as possible and planned a bunch of stuff to ensure that. Too much stuff.
It was a sticky situation. Luckily we have remained on good terms through the years.
For my son's family this was a well needed vacation. They have many friends out here that he also wanted to spend at least some time with.

I suggested they give his Mother the first day; Let her get a good solid dayful of grandchild to get the edge off. They did this.
They came back late and exhausted. We went out to the local tavern for dinner. Albert cooks there. Baldur likes Albert, and his grilled pizzas.
They had seafood.
We had a quiet dinner.

Alcohol at Boughbreak

The icebox here was well stocked with Moxie in anticipation of my son's visit.
Moxie hasn't been available in most of the US in many years, but historically it was a big seller in the late Victorian era.
It was the first huge soft drink, predating Coca-Cola.
The drink is strangely bitter, the predominant flavor being gentian root extract. Because of this it tastes medicinal to some, vaguely herbal to others.
Baldur has always liked it, luckily RI is one of the few places it can still be had.
The state of Maine has made Moxie it's official beverage, it is sold everywhere up there.

Anyway the signature house cocktail at Boughbreak, and to my knowledge one that I invented is the Moxundjäger.
The recipe is rather simple:
Pur a shot of Jägermeister over ice into a tall glass.
Fill the glass with chilled Moxie
Garnish with a small triangle cut from an orange slice.
Voila! perfection

Another drink served here is Hot Mulled Cider with Butterscotch Schnappes.
At holiday events I will keep cider warm in my crockpot and have it out by the dessert buffet with the bottle of schnappes next to it.

Wow! I thought Moxie was gone forever. I've heard it tastes nasty. People used to drink it because they believed it would benefit all sorts of health issues. Today we still use the word to mean gutsy or daring - as in "she's got serious moxie talking to her boss like that!"

I've never heard of Moxundjager. But then I'd have to travel pretty far to buy some Moxie.

Thanks for sharing all of these stories. It's fun stuff!

Finally remembered to check Radio Baldur and got all the old news of the wedding prep. SO happy there was no pre-nuptial divorce regarding butterflies and red print. Hope the cake ended up as planned with no FLW and glittering rainbows. And the exhaust-the-grandboy with the grandmom was excellent strategy. Thanks for giving us so many vicarious smiles. Do hope recovery at Boughbreak proceeds apace!

wow Baldur, what an epic saga!

Goldiegirl, so it's YOU! Now I have to match two different ideas of you - I Imagined Goldiegirl with blonde curles (of course), and InTheOcean with black long hair...

Marg, thank you for the appreciation. I can't believe I drew so much!!
As every year, now I'm working on a composite picture, you'll see it very soon. I completed my 4h year on TD just today!

Wow, cloro, you're right -

.. Baldur and me and matthew (amongst others) have also just had our TD anniversaries in November - in our case 5 years - and Login and others narrowly preceded us in October 2008 ..

.. and of course Mel (mekeys) started right after us in December, and at last count has done over 6600 pictures

10978. 28 Nov 2013 03:13

clorophilla

...and Indigo, started in March 2009, has more than 5600 pics!

I think we should open a new celebrative topic for the more addicted TDers ;-)
