I was noticing how some of my work gets rated high just because maybe I put it out during a peak time for people to be logged in, or maybe it's a subject that strikes a chord, but not necessarily is it a piece that I am particularly proud or fond of.
Then there are others which I work hard on or think turned out just as I envisioned, and maybe it's the middle of the night and no one is logged on, or maybe my taste is that skewed in my own work. But I thought it would be fun for us to each pick our own favorite pics that we've done from each medium. So here goes my "shrine to self". I hope someone else does this, too, so I don't seem like I'm tooting my own horn. lol

Thanks, Jshundo! There were a couple on there I had never seen of yours. It made me go back to your gallery and look at all your pics. If I had your kind of talent, there's no WAY I could pick just one! They are all fantastic! I loved the one of the bubble bath with just the toes sticking out...hadn't seen that before either.

Five, I don't know HOW you could narrow your choices down! And thanks for that link...How did I miss this the first time around? Ah well, I have improved my techniques by watching all you masters now, so my choices now are much different than they'd have been a month ago. Midnight, I like all those pics, and it made me review your gallery. There were many good ones I had somehow missed, so you now have some extra points which don't matter I guess, but still.

Robin -- this is a fun subject to start up again, particularly since we don't have the usual search capabilities in Forums -- and you've added a slightly different spin to it, too, by emphasizing one from each palette. (In the previous one, I'd chosen 3 I'd done in Animal, one in Candy and one in Flowers.)
Great nudge to me to prowl around again in people's galleries, finding overlooked wonders!
I thoroughly agree on how odd it is that some we personally love don't garner much attention. To me that feels more puzzling than getting crazy low-ball votes.
Five -- thanks for including the link!

Leonardo has 46 votes (at this time) but I put more work into my Spinning Musical Top (and was more delighted with the results) which has only 17.

http://www.thinkdraw.com/picture.php?pictureId=31887

Jul Sparkler has 37, but it's been around a while. I really prefer the color play in Wall 2 which has only 8.

Clearly not my medium! I've only done three, which some kind souls offered 8, 8 and 9 votes...
http://www.thinkdraw.com/picture.php?pictureId=43043
Avatars
Ditto, tho' somehow Stargate got 11... I'm not even fond of it. I like the calligraphic quality in my fables series, but the Oak & Reeds has 5 votes, the Flies got only 1... and the Wind & Sun? ...*N*o*n*e*!!!
(Remember that, the next time any of you think this place runs on favoritism! LOL)
http://www.thinkdraw.com/picture.php?pictureId=45007
Gothic
Sled Dog has 36 and I do like it very much (yep, one person called even this one 'gross' and managed to vote it down to an average of 4.53), but the one in Gothic that I truly loved was the Scythe of Winter, languishing to this day with only 13 votes (but the higher average of 4.77 ...go figure! lol)
http://www.thinkdraw.com/picture.php?pictureId=16384
http://www.thinkdraw.com/picture.php?pictureId=15953
Candy
Love the colors, just don't seem able to use them well. The sketch, Arlington, has 16 votes, but I don't set much store by those because I think it's basically just an emotional reaction to the subject, not the art per se. The only one I love (and I do love it, every time I look at it!) is Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun (14).
http://www.thinkdraw.com/picture.php?pictureId=29077
Actually, in my opinion, the Lips thing is as good as the Leonardo, just done in red & black licorice instead of green stems (and lord knows I worked as hard on it to get the blending and that illusion of 'shape'!)... but it's captured just 14 votes to Leonardo's 46.
http://www.thinkdraw.com/picture.php?pictureId=37083
Animals
Well, Curious, of course... that really is an effective portrait. I'm still satisfied with it, weeks later, when it has snuck up to a vote count of 62, but Make a Wish is only at 38 and I suspect from an art technique viewpoint it's every bit as worthy.
http://www.thinkdraw.com/picture.php?pictureId=37161
http://www.thinkdraw.com/picture.php?pictureId=39415
The burst of light in House of the Rising Sun is running at 41 votes and got into the Pic of the Month club (Top 5) but honestly, it's a cheap trick. The reflected candle glow is more deserving. None of 'em are averaged at 5.00, by the way. And my insouciant mooses are running in the teens, with the Contemplative one at a measly 5. Gotta love it!

Following Robin and Qsilv's reasoning here is a true anecdote that took place in Uruguay.
A scenographer was called by a director to create and design the stage scenery for a play. The former asked to see a rehearsal and speak with the actors and the director before designing anything. After thinking it for a while, he came and told the director and the producers that the stage should remain ABSOLUTELY EMPTY.
The scenographer later sent his bill with the amount of his fee.
Should this scenographer have been paid or not? What's your opinion?
I'll tell you later what REALLY HAPPENED.

I am really enjoying this. I routinely browse back through the gallery and review everyone's work for the day, so it amazes me that I've missed so many fine pieces. I think some of them I have maybe looked at and forgotten to vote on, even though they moved me enough to take a closer look. (That's typically my threshold for a vote!)
Polenta, I think that your story is interesting....could be used by a professor in an ethics class or something. I guess it's hard for me to gauge if the guy was just being a lazy jerk or if there was really some artistic merit to having no scene design, and whether the director ultimately agreed. But I suppose they were paying him for his opinion as much as his work, so they probably owe him something. What's the answer???

So here’s the thing, I always have two favorites in each category: the one that I was just goofing on or trying something new for me and the one that I think is my best in that category. So the first will be the goof/something new and the second the best IMHO.

Also, even as I post this I’m debating my choices. I really like all the work I do or I wouldn’t post it; I’m not bragging when I say that, it’s simply true. If I don’t like a piece I don’t post it or I promptly delete it.
