“Great, just great!†Chloe shouts, kicking her leg against the wall. The meager little thing collapsed. “That is just what we needed, another river blocking our way! but what else should I expect? Surely nothing convenient!â€
“‘Kay, take a breath, let it out. Now think.†she walks next to the wall, looking down at the torrent. “Kyle, Will have an idea, he always does,†she says as she gives up. She trumps through bush to the campsite we just left.
I shiver as the first few notes of a melody reach Chloe and me. It always seems so ominous to me. Kyle looks up from his flute, and hugs his sister, “did you find a way out of the forest?†he asks, never noticing me. Chloe shakes her head, I stare at the fire flickering, acting unhurt for the hundredth time, not caring that it doesn’t matter.
“We have to find her,†Kyle’s voice breaks my concentration. A raven caws somewhere nearby.
The raven’s caw echoes in my head. They have never once seen me, despite the fact we’re siblings. I remember when that old lady told them they had another sister. It’s a bittersweet memory, at least now they are aware of me.
“She is our last hope for the Kingdom,†Kyle continues, unaware that who he is looking for, has always been with him. A tears slips off my face, onto ash.
I toss those feeling of despair and rise, they have a goal to find me, and I have a goal for them to know me. I grab Kyle’s hand and pull him up. He yanks his hand back in confusion. Chloe rises to his side.
“What is it?†she asks. Kyle looks around and I gulp. I have touched them before, but for some reason someone else does too at the same time.
“I felt someone pull me up.†Chloe starts looking around at that.
“Could it be you imagining something?â€
“No, I know I felt something pull me up!†Excited I grab something out of their bag, maybe this time, I think. “Oh, Kyle do you see?†Chloe whispers not daring to look away. Kyle just nods. I drop the brush.
